كشف مسؤول أمريكي رفيع المستوى بأن المفاوضين الأمريكيين مستعدون لعقد جولة أخرى من المفاوضات مع إيران يوم الجمعة القادم في جنيف، في حال تلقيهم مقترحاً مفصلاً بشأن اتفاق نووي خلال الـ48 ساعة.
ونقل «موقع أكسيوس»، اليوم (الأحد)، عن المسؤول قوله: إن إدارة ترمب تنتظر المقترح الإيراني. وأضاف: «إذا قدمت إيران مسودة مقترح، فإن الولايات المتحدة مستعدة للاجتماع في جنيف، الجمعة، لبدء مفاوضات تفصيلية لبحث إمكانية التوصل إلى اتفاق نووي».
وأكد المسؤول أن إدارة الرئيس دونالد ترمب وإيران قد تناقشان أيضاً إمكانية التوصل إلى اتفاق مؤقت قبل إبرام اتفاق نووي كامل.
ورجح مسؤولون أمريكيون أن تكون المساعي الدبلوماسية الحالية بمثابة الفرصة الأخيرة التي سيمنحها الرئيس دونالد ترمب لإيران قبل شن عملية عسكرية أمريكية إسرائيلية واسعة النطاق قد تستهدف المرشد الأعلى علي خامنئي بشكل مباشر.
ويعتزم المبعوثان ستيف ويتكوف وجاريد كوشنر اللذان نصحا ترمب بإعطاء الدبلوماسية فرصة قبل إصدار أمر بالضربة، التواجد في جنيف في 27 فبراير إذا أرسل الإيرانيون المقترح في وقت مبكر من هذا الأسبوع.
وأفصحت صحيفة «فايننشال تايمز» أن إيران اشترت آلاف الصواريخ المحمولة على الكتف من روسيا.
وخلال الجولة الأخيرة من المحادثات في جنيف، يوم الثلاثاء الماضي، طلب كل من ويتكوف وكوشنر من وزير الخارجية الإيراني عباس عراقجي تقديم مقترح مكتوب مفصل من إيران في غضون أيام.
وأبلغ ويتكوف وكوشنر، الوزير الإيراني بأن موقف ترمب هو «عدم تخصيب» اليورانيوم على الأراضي الإيرانية، لكنهما أكدا أن الولايات المتحدة مستعدة للنظر في مقترح إيراني يتضمن «تخصيباً رمزياً» إذا استطاعت إيران إثبات أن الخطة تسد جميع السبل المؤدية إلى امتلاك سلاح نووي.
وكان عراقجي، أعلن أنه سينتهي من صياغة المقترح خلال عطلة نهاية الأسبوع وسيسلمه إلى ويتكوف وكوشنر فور موافقة القيادة السياسية في طهران عليه.
فيما أعرب السيناتور ليندسي غراهام من ولاية كارولينا الجنوبية لموقع أكسيوس، عن أسفه لأن العديد من المقربين من الرئيس ترمب ينصحونه بعدم قصف إيران. وحث غراهام الرئيس على تجاهلهم.
وقال غراهام: «أتفهم المخاوف بشأن العمليات العسكرية الكبرى في الشرق الأوسط في ضوء التورطات السابقة. مع ذلك، يبدو أن الأصوات التي تحذر من التورط تتجاهل عواقب ترك الشر دون رادع».
وأفاد مستشارو ترمب بأن الرئيس قد يُغير مساره ويأمر بشن ضربة في أي وقت، لكن العديد من أعضاء فريقه ينصحون حالياً بالصبر.
A senior U.S. official revealed that American negotiators are ready to hold another round of negotiations with Iran next Friday in Geneva, provided they receive a detailed proposal regarding a nuclear agreement within 48 hours.
Axios reported today (Sunday) that the official said the Trump administration is awaiting the Iranian proposal. He added, “If Iran submits a draft proposal, the United States is prepared to meet in Geneva on Friday to begin detailed negotiations to explore the possibility of reaching a nuclear agreement.”
The official confirmed that the Trump administration and Iran may also discuss the possibility of reaching a temporary agreement before finalizing a comprehensive nuclear deal.
U.S. officials suggested that the current diplomatic efforts could be the last opportunity that President Donald Trump grants to Iran before launching a large-scale U.S.-Israeli military operation that could directly target Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Envoys Steve Mnuchin and Jared Kushner, who advised Trump to give diplomacy a chance before issuing an order for a strike, plan to be in Geneva on February 27 if the Iranians send the proposal early this week.
The Financial Times disclosed that Iran has purchased thousands of shoulder-fired missiles from Russia.
During the last round of talks in Geneva last Tuesday, both Mnuchin and Kushner asked Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi to provide a detailed written proposal from Iran within days.
Mnuchin and Kushner informed the Iranian minister that Trump’s position is “no enrichment” of uranium on Iranian soil, but they confirmed that the United States is willing to consider an Iranian proposal that includes “symbolic enrichment” if Iran can prove that the plan closes all pathways to acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Araqchi announced that he would finalize the proposal over the weekend and deliver it to Mnuchin and Kushner as soon as it is approved by the political leadership in Tehran.
Senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina expressed to Axios his regret that many close to President Trump are advising him against bombing Iran. Graham urged the president to ignore them.
Graham said, “I understand the concerns about major military operations in the Middle East in light of past entanglements. However, it seems that the voices warning against involvement ignore the consequences of leaving evil unchecked.”
Trump’s advisors reported that the president could change course and order a strike at any time, but many of his team members are currently advising patience.
