إذا تحدث السريحي أجبرك على الإنصات لا بقوة الصوت بل بعمق الفكرة وحضور الحكيم، الذي تعرف أن كل كلمة تخرج منه تستحق أن تسمع. كنت تتمنى ألا يسكت وأن يطيل البقاء في فضاء الكلام لأن حديثه لا يمر عابراً بل يستقر في العقل والوجدان. سكت الآن طوعاً وإجباراً وغاب الصوت لكن المعنى لم يغب وسيظل ينطق في أعماقنا ووحدتنا وستبقى كلماته عالقة في أذهاننا ووجداننا إنه ألم الرحيل ودهشة الفراق.
كان غريباً في تميزه، موسوعياً في ثقافته، عميقاً في الدين والشريعة، عالماً باللغة، ناقداً أدبياً رصيناً، ومتذوقاً استثنائياً للفنون البصرية. كان يمتلك في هذا الحقل معرفة دقيقة ولافتة قائمة على تفاصيل وأرقام وقراءات عميقة تفوق أحياناً ما نملكه نحن الذين مارسنا هذا الفن أو درسناه أكاديمياً حتى تشعر وأنت تستمع إليه أن مفاتيح هذا العالم كانت حاضرة لديه بوعي الباحث لا بسطحية المتلقي.
خصّص للفنون البصرية صفحة أسبوعية لم تكن مساحة عرض عابرة، بل كانت منبراً ثقافياً حياً شارك فيه بفكره وأطروحاته المختلفة وبعناوينه الذكية التي رسخت في الذاكرة وصنعت وعياً بصرياً لدى القارئ. كان يتعامل مع الفن بوصفه خطاباً معرفياً لا يقل شأناً عن الأدب، ويمنح الفنان حقه من القراءة العميقة والاحترام النقدي.
وعلى المستوى الشخصي، كان معلماً نبيلاً استفدت منه كثيراً في كتابة العناوين، وصياغة مداخل المواد، وبناء البروفايل الصحفي والأدبي. لم يكن تعديله للمواد جافاً، ولا توجيهه قاسياً، بل كان يبتسم ويقول بكل تهذيب: «ما رأيك أن نكتبها كذا»، فتدرك أن ما يقدمه توجيهٌ مغموس بالاحترام، وليس تصحيحاً يجرح النص ويكسر صاحبه، بل لغة تحمل احتراماً عميقاً لما كتب، واقتراحاً يفتح أفقاً جديداً دون أن يلغي ما قبله. لم يعب نصاً ولم يكسر قلماً بل كان يصحح بروح الخبير، ويقترح بعقل الشريك، ويترك للكاتب حق الاختيار.
رحل الجسد وبقي الدرس وبقي الأثر وبقيت طريقته ونبرته وأخلاقه. سيظل السريحي صوتاً حاضراً في الذاكرة الثقافية، وضميراً معرفياً نادراً علّمنا أن الكلمة مسؤولية، وأن النقد أخلاق قبل أن يكون أدوات.

With the passing of Dr. Said Al-Surayhi, the cultural scene does not just lose a great Arab critic, but bids farewell to a rare encyclopedic intellectual who combined deep knowledge, noble morals, and a keen sense of human sensitivity.
When Al-Surayhi spoke, he compelled you to listen, not with the force of his voice but with the depth of his ideas and the presence of a wise man, knowing that every word he uttered deserved to be heard. You wished he would not stop and would prolong his stay in the realm of speech because his discourse did not pass fleetingly but settled in the mind and soul. Now he has fallen silent, both voluntarily and involuntarily, and his voice has vanished, but the meaning has not faded and will continue to resonate in our depths and unity, and his words will remain etched in our minds and hearts; it is the pain of departure and the astonishment of parting.
He was unique in his distinction, encyclopedic in his culture, profound in religion and law, knowledgeable in language, a serious literary critic, and an exceptional connoisseur of visual arts. He possessed in this field a precise and striking knowledge based on details, figures, and deep readings that sometimes exceeded what we who practiced this art or studied it academically possessed, making you feel while listening to him that the keys to this world were present with the awareness of a researcher, not with the superficiality of a receiver.
He dedicated a weekly page to visual arts that was not a fleeting display space, but rather a vibrant cultural platform where he participated with his thoughts, various propositions, and clever titles that became embedded in memory and created a visual awareness among readers. He treated art as a cognitive discourse that is no less significant than literature, granting the artist their due of deep reading and critical respect.
On a personal level, he was a noble teacher from whom I benefited greatly in writing headlines, formulating material introductions, and building journalistic and literary profiles. His editing of materials was not dry, nor was his guidance harsh; rather, he would smile and politely say, “What do you think we write it this way?” You would realize that what he offered was guidance steeped in respect, not a correction that wounds the text and breaks its author, but a language that carries a deep respect for what was written, and a suggestion that opens a new horizon without negating what came before. He did not criticize a text nor break a pen; rather, he corrected with the spirit of an expert, proposed with the mind of a partner, and left the writer the right to choose.
The body has departed, but the lesson remains, the impact remains, and his method, tone, and ethics remain. Al-Surayhi will continue to be a present voice in the cultural memory and a rare cognitive conscience that taught us that the word is a responsibility and that criticism is ethics before it is tools.
May God have mercy on Dr. Said Al-Surayhi with abundant mercy, and grant him a spacious place in Paradise, and may what he contributed to thought and culture be weighed in his favor.
