في تطور جديد لواقعة إصابة العشرات بحالات عمى جماعي في مصر، أحالت نيابة شمال الجيزة الكلية، 10 من الأطباء والمسؤولين والعاملين بمستشفى 6 أكتوبر للتأمين الصحي إلى المحاكمة الجنائية أمام محكمة الجنح، لاتهامهم بالتسبب عن طريق الخطأ في إصابة 75 مريضاً بعاهات مستديمة بالعين.
وكشفت التحقيقات التي ترأسها رئيس نيابة حوادث شمال الجيزة المستشار عمرو خالد، أن المرضى أصيبوا بعدوى شديدة داخل العين عقب خضوعهم لعمليات إزالة المياه البيضاء خلال شهر أغسطس 2025، ما أدى إلى التهاب باطن مقلة العين، وتدهور حاد في الإبصار، ووصول بعض الحالات إلى فقدان البصر أو استئصال محتويات العين، وهو ما يُعد عاهات مستديمة.
وكشفت التحقيقات وجود إهمال جسيم وقصور فني وإداري في منظومة التعقيم ومكافحة العدوى داخل المستشفى، ما تسبب في تفاقم الأزمة الصحية للمرضى.
القصة الكاملة للواقعة
بدأت الأزمة في أغسطس 2025 عندما خضع عدد كبير من المرضى، معظمهم من منتفعي منظومة التأمين الصحي الشامل، لعمليات جراحية روتينية في قسم الرمد بمستشفى 6 أكتوبر فرع الدقي بالجيزة، وكانت العمليات تشمل بشكل أساسي إزالة المياه البيضاء وعلاجات أخرى لأمراض العيون.
وبعد فترة قصيرة (ساعات إلى أيام قليلة)، بدأ المرضى يشتكون من مضاعفات خطيرة جداً، منها: التهابات حادة في العين، عدوى بكتيرية خطيرة، وصفت في بعض التقارير بـ«بكتيريا قاتلة»، تدهور سريع في الإبصار، وفقدان البصر كلياً أو جزئياً لدى عدد من الحالات.
ووصلت الشكاوى إلى مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي ووسائل الإعلام، إذ روى بعض الضحايا (منهم من أصيب بالعمى) تفاصيل معاناتهم، مما أثار غضباً عاماً واسعاً واتهامات بالإهمال الطبي الفادح داخل منظومة التأمين الصحي.
الإجراءات الفورية من وزارة الصحة
ورداً على الواقعة، وجه حينها وزير الصحة والسكان الدكتور خالد عبدالغفار باتخاذ إجراءات فورية شملت إحالة الواقعة بالكامل إلى النائب العام للتحقيق الجنائي الشامل، إنهاء تكليف مدير المستشفى وإحالته للتحقيق، إيقاف أطباء طب وجراحة العيون المشاركين في العمليات عن العمل، وإنهاء تعاقدهم مع الهيئة، تشكيل لجان فنية وطبية متخصصة للتحقيق في أسباب الإصابات، ونقل بعض الحالات إلى مستشفيات متخصصة لتلقي العلاج على نفقة الدولة.
وأكدت تقارير اللجان وجود تقصير واضح في الالتزام ببروتوكولات مكافحة العدوى، ليصدر الوزير عدة قرارات أبرزها: وقف رئيس الإدارة المركزية للخدمات الطبية بالهيئة العامة للتأمين الصحي عن العمل وإحالته للتحقيق، إنهاء تكليف مدير المستشفى والتحقيق معه، إيقاف أطباء الرمد المشاركين في العمليات وإنهاء تعاقدهم مع الهيئة، تكليف مدير فرع التأمين الصحي بالقاهرة بالإشراف المؤقت على المستشفى، ومراجعة شاملة لإجراءات مكافحة العدوى في جميع مستشفيات الهيئة.
قرار الإحالة للمحاكمة
وبعد انتهاء التحقيقات النيابية التي شملت تقارير الطب الشرعي وشهادات الضحايا ولجان الفحص، أصدرت نيابة شمال الجيزة، اليوم (الخميس)، قرار الإحالة الرسمي لـ10 أشخاص (أطباء، إداريين، ومساعدين طبيين) إلى المحكمة الجنائية المختصة، وذلك بتهمة إحداث عاهات مستديمة بالخطأ نتيجة الإهمال وعدم الالتزام بمعايير السلامة والنظافة أثناء العمليات الجراحية.
وتشير بعض التقارير إلى أن عدد المتضررين وصل إلى نحو 75 مريضاً أصيبوا بمضاعفات، منهم حالات فقدت البصر نهائياً، وهو ما يُعد من أخطر حوادث الإهمال الطبي في المنظومة الصحية الحكومية خلال الفترة الأخيرة.
In a new development regarding the incident of dozens suffering from cases of collective blindness in Egypt, the North Giza Public Prosecution has referred 10 doctors, officials, and staff from the 6th of October Health Insurance Hospital to criminal trial before the misdemeanors court, accusing them of accidentally causing 75 patients to suffer permanent disabilities in their eyes.
Investigations led by the head of the North Giza Accidents Prosecution, Counselor Amr Khaled, revealed that the patients contracted severe infections inside the eye after undergoing cataract removal surgeries in August 2025, which led to inflammation of the interior of the eyeball, a sharp deterioration in vision, and some cases resulting in total vision loss or the removal of the eye contents, which is considered a permanent disability.
The investigations uncovered gross negligence and technical and administrative shortcomings in the sterilization and infection control system within the hospital, which exacerbated the patients’ health crisis.
The Full Story of the Incident
The crisis began in August 2025 when a large number of patients, most of whom were beneficiaries of the comprehensive health insurance system, underwent routine surgical procedures in the ophthalmology department at the 6th of October Hospital, Dokki branch in Giza. The surgeries primarily involved cataract removal and other treatments for eye diseases.
Shortly after (within hours to a few days), patients began to complain of very serious complications, including: severe eye inflammation, dangerous bacterial infections described in some reports as “killer bacteria,” rapid deterioration in vision, and complete or partial vision loss in several cases.
Complaints reached social media and news outlets, as some victims (including those who went blind) recounted the details of their suffering, sparking widespread public outrage and accusations of gross medical negligence within the health insurance system.
Immediate Actions by the Ministry of Health
In response to the incident, then-Minister of Health and Population Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar directed immediate actions, including referring the entire incident to the Attorney General for a comprehensive criminal investigation, terminating the hospital director’s assignment and referring him for investigation, suspending the ophthalmologists involved in the surgeries from work, and terminating their contracts with the authority, forming specialized technical and medical committees to investigate the causes of the injuries, and transferring some cases to specialized hospitals for treatment at the state’s expense.
Reports from the committees confirmed a clear failure to adhere to infection control protocols, leading the minister to issue several decisions, the most notable being: suspending the head of the Central Administration for Medical Services at the General Authority for Health Insurance from work and referring him for investigation, terminating the hospital director’s assignment and investigating him, suspending the ophthalmologists involved in the surgeries and terminating their contracts with the authority, assigning the director of the Cairo Health Insurance branch to temporarily oversee the hospital, and conducting a comprehensive review of infection control procedures in all hospitals of the authority.
Decision to Refer for Trial
After the completion of the public prosecution investigations, which included forensic reports, victim testimonies, and examination committees, the North Giza Prosecution issued today (Thursday) the official referral decision for 10 individuals (doctors, administrators, and medical assistants) to the competent criminal court, on the charge of causing permanent disabilities by mistake due to negligence and failure to adhere to safety and hygiene standards during surgical procedures.
Some reports indicate that the number of affected patients reached about 75, who suffered complications, including cases that lost their sight completely, which is considered one of the most serious incidents of medical negligence in the government health system in recent times.
