أكد المفكر الدكتور حسام الدّين فيّاض، أنّ الآخر في علم الاجتماع؛ ليس مجرد انعكاس للذات، بل هو المرآة التي تكشف حدود فهمنا للهوية، ومفتاح إدراكنا للعدالة المجتمعية، والتعايش، والاعتراف المتبادل في المجتمع.
وعدّ فيّاض مفهوم «الآخر» من المفاهيم المركزية في علم الاجتماع والفكر الإنساني المعاصر؛ إذ يشكل مدخلاً لفهم آليات التمايز الاجتماعي وبناء الهوية. فالآخر ليس مجرد شخص أو جماعة مختلفة، بل هو نتاج لعمليات اجتماعية وثقافية ورمزية تحدد من نحن في مقابل من لسنا نحن.
ويرى أنّ الآخر ليس كائناً خارجياً فحسب، بل عنصر أساسي في تشكل الهوية والوعي الذاتي، وأن الاعتراف المتبادل يمثل إطاراً فعالاً لبناء العدالة الاجتماعية وتعزيز التعددية الثقافية، ويمكن للخطاب الإعلامي والسياسي أن يعيد إنتاج الإقصاء إذا لم يُراع الاعتراف بالآخر.
تعزيز الاعتراف المتبادل
فياض أوصى في دراسته (سوسيولوجيا الآخر جدلية الهوية والاختلاف في البناء الاجتماعي والثقافي)، بضرورة تعزيز الاعتراف المتبادل في السياسات الثقافية والاجتماعية، وإعادة النظر في الصور النمطية للآخر في الإعلام والتعليم، وتوسيع الدراسات حول الآخر في سياق العولمة لضمان فهم متكامل للهوية والاختلاف في المجتمعات المعاصرة.
وذهب إلى أن مسألة الآخر من أكثر القضايا جوهرية وإشكالية في الدراسات الإنسانية والاجتماعية؛ إذ لا تقتصر أهميتها على كونها كياناً منفصلاً عن الذات، بل تتصل مباشرة بفهم كيفية تشكّل الهوية الإنسانية في علاقتها بالاختلاف والتنوع. فالآخر، في بُعده النظري، ليس مجرد كيان موضوعي للبحث، بل هو المرآة التي تعكس للذات حدودها وإمكاناتها، وشرط لإدراك الإنسان لأبعاده الأخلاقية والثقافية والاجتماعية، موضحاً أن الفلاسفة الكلاسيكيين؛ ومنهم: (هيجل) و(سارتر) و(إيمانويل ليفيناس) أكدوا أن الآخر يلعب دوراً محورياً في تكوين الوعي الذاتي، فالاعتراف بالآخر، أو الصراع من أجل الاعتراف، هو ما يمنح الذات معناها ويحدد حدود وجودها الأخلاقي والفكري.
العلاقات بين الهوية والاختلاف
ولفت فياض إلى أنّ هذه التحليلات مجتمعة تؤكد أن الآخر ليس مجرد كائن خارجي، بل جزء من عمليات إنتاج الهويات والسلطة في المجتمع، مضيفاً أنه بانفتاح المجتمعات على العولمة، أصبح الآخر حاضراً ليس فقط في الفضاء الرمزي، بل في الحياة اليومية للمجتمعات من خلال الهجرة، والتعددية الثقافية، والرقمية، ما أعاد صياغة العلاقات بين الهوية والاختلاف، واستدعى إدراكاً جديداً للعلاقات الاجتماعية القائمة على الاعتراف والتفاعل، بدلاً من الإقصاء والصراع، إذ لم يعد الآخر كياناً خارجياً، بل عنصر فاعل في بناء الذات والجماعة، وفي تكوين الهويات الفردية والجماعية ضمن فضاءات متعددة الثقافات.
ونفى أن يكون الآخر تهديداً للذات، بل فرصة لإعادة تشكيل الهوية، وبناء الاعتراف المتبادل، وتعزيز التنوع الاجتماعي والثقافي.
The thinker Dr. Hussam Al-Din Fayyad affirmed that the “Other” in sociology is not merely a reflection of the self, but rather a mirror that reveals the limits of our understanding of identity, and the key to our perception of social justice, coexistence, and mutual recognition within society.
Fayyad considered the concept of the “Other” as one of the central concepts in sociology and contemporary human thought; it serves as an entry point for understanding the mechanisms of social differentiation and identity construction. The Other is not just a different person or group, but a product of social, cultural, and symbolic processes that define who we are in contrast to who we are not.
He believes that the Other is not merely an external being, but an essential element in the formation of identity and self-awareness, and that mutual recognition represents an effective framework for building social justice and enhancing cultural pluralism. Media and political discourse can reproduce exclusion if the recognition of the Other is not taken into account.
Enhancing Mutual Recognition
In his study (Sociology of the Other: The Dialectic of Identity and Difference in Social and Cultural Construction), Fayyad recommended the necessity of enhancing mutual recognition in cultural and social policies, reconsidering stereotypes of the Other in media and education, and expanding studies on the Other in the context of globalization to ensure a comprehensive understanding of identity and difference in contemporary societies.
He argued that the issue of the Other is one of the most fundamental and problematic issues in human and social studies; its importance is not limited to being a separate entity from the self, but is directly connected to understanding how human identity is formed in relation to difference and diversity. The Other, in its theoretical dimension, is not merely an objective entity for research, but is the mirror that reflects to the self its limits and potentials, and is a condition for human awareness of its moral, cultural, and social dimensions. He clarified that classical philosophers, including Hegel, Sartre, and Emmanuel Levinas, emphasized that the Other plays a pivotal role in the formation of self-awareness; the recognition of the Other, or the struggle for recognition, is what gives the self its meaning and defines the boundaries of its moral and intellectual existence.
The Relationships Between Identity and Difference
Fayyad pointed out that these analyses collectively affirm that the Other is not merely an external being, but part of the processes of identity and power production in society. He added that with the opening of societies to globalization, the Other has become present not only in the symbolic space but also in the daily lives of communities through migration, cultural pluralism, and digitalization, which has reshaped the relationships between identity and difference, and called for a new understanding of social relations based on recognition and interaction, rather than exclusion and conflict. The Other is no longer an external entity, but an active element in the construction of the self and the community, and in the formation of individual and collective identities within multicultural spaces.
He denied that the Other is a threat to the self, but rather an opportunity to reshape identity, build mutual recognition, and enhance social and cultural diversity.
