ضرب زلزال بلغت قوته 5.6 درجة على مقياس ريختر، اليوم (الثلاثاء)، قبالة سواحل مقاطعة ييلان شمال شرقي تايوان، وفق ما أعلنته إدارة الأرصاد الجوية المركزية في الجزيرة.
ووقع مركز الزلزال في المياه الساحلية على بعد نحو 16.9 كيلومتر شرق جنوب شرق مقر حكومة مقاطعة ييلان، وعلى عمق 66.8 كيلومتر (نحو 41.5 ميل) تحت سطح الأرض، مما ساهم في انتشار الاهتزازات على نطاق واسع نسبياً دون أن يتسبب في دمار كبير.
وأفادت التقارير الأولية بأنه لم يتم تسجيل أي أضرار مادية أو إصابات بشرية حتى الآن، رغم أن الزلزال تسبب في اهتزاز ملحوظ للمباني في العاصمة تايبيه، وشعر به السكان في عدة مناطق شمالية.
وسجلت شدة الزلزال (حسب المقياس التايواني المكون من 7 درجات) درجة 4 في أجزاء من مقاطعة ييلان (وكانت الأعلى في بلدة ناناو)، بينما بلغت درجة 3 في مناطق أخرى مثل مقاطعة هوالين، مدينة تايبيه الجديدة، تايبيه، تاويوان، مقاطعة ومدينة شينتشو، تايتشونغ، ومياو لي.
وتقع تايوان على مفترق صفيحتين تكتونيتين رئيسيتين، مما يجعلها واحدة من أكثر المناطق عرضة للزلازل في العالم، وشهدت الجزيرة في الماضي زلازل مدمرة، أبرزها زلزال عام 1999 بقوة 7.3 درجات الذي أودى بحياة أكثر من ألفي شخص، وزلزال عام 2016 في جنوب الجزيرة الذي أسفر عن مقتل أكثر من 100 شخص.
وتواصل السلطات التايوانية مراقبة الوضع بحثاً عن أي هزات ارتدادية محتملة.
A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck today (Tuesday) off the coast of Yilan County in northeastern Taiwan, according to the Central Weather Bureau on the island.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located in coastal waters about 16.9 kilometers east-southeast of the Yilan County government headquarters, at a depth of 66.8 kilometers (about 41.5 miles) below the surface, which contributed to a relatively widespread shaking without causing significant damage.
Initial reports indicated that no material damage or human injuries had been recorded so far, although the earthquake caused noticeable shaking of buildings in the capital, Taipei, and was felt by residents in several northern areas.
The intensity of the earthquake (according to the Taiwanese scale of 7 degrees) reached a level of 4 in parts of Yilan County (the highest in Nanao Township), while it was rated at 3 in other areas such as Hualien County, New Taipei City, Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu County and City, Taichung, and Miaoli.
Taiwan is located at the intersection of two major tectonic plates, making it one of the most earthquake-prone regions in the world. The island has experienced devastating earthquakes in the past, most notably the 1999 earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 that claimed the lives of more than two thousand people, and the 2016 earthquake in the south of the island that resulted in over 100 fatalities.
The Taiwanese authorities continue to monitor the situation for any potential aftershocks.
