أمرت وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية اليوم (الإثنين) الموظفين غير الأساسيين في الحكومة الأمريكية وأفراد عائلاتهم المؤهلين بمغادرة سفارة الولايات المتحدة في بيروت، مؤكدة في بيان أن هذه الخطوة تهدف إلى تقليص الوجود الدبلوماسي لأسباب أمنية.
وقال مسؤول في وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية: الوزارة أمرت بمغادرة الموظفين غير الطارئين في الحكومة الأمريكية وأفراد عائلاتهم المؤهلين من سفارة الولايات المتحدة في بيروت، موضحاً أن الوزارة تُقيّم باستمرار البيئة الأمنية، وبناءً على أحدث مراجعة، رأت أنه من الحكمة تقليص الوجود إلى الحد الأدنى من الموظفين الأساسيين.
وأشار المسؤول إلى أن السفارة ستبقى عاملة بطاقمها الأساسي، مبينة أن الإجراء مؤقت ويهدف إلى ضمان سلامة الموظفين، مع الحفاظ على القدرة التشغيلية لتقديم الخدمات ومساعدة المواطنين الأمريكيين، ولم تبين الوزارة طبيعة التهديدات الأمنية أو مدتها.
وتأتي الخطوة الأمريكية وسط توترات إقليمية متصاعدة ومخاوف من اندلاع حرب بين واشنطن وطهران.
