استدعى مدرب منتخب شباب مصر وائل رياض اللاعب كريم أحمد، المحترف في صفوف نادي ليفربول الإنجليزي، ليكون الظهور الأول له بقميص الفراعنة في هذه المرحلة السنية، ضمن رؤية فنية تعتمد على توسيع قاعدة الاختيار ومتابعة المواهب المصرية في مختلف الدوريات الأوروبية. وتعتبر تجربته الأولى بقميص منتخب مصر للشباب مواليد 2007، بعد وصوله إلى القاهرة وانضمامه غداً (الجمعة) إلى معسكر الفريق الذي ينطلق بمركز المنتخبات الوطنية بمدينة السادس من أكتوبر، استعداداً لتصفيات كأس الأمم الأفريقية.
تعود رحلة الموهوب «كريم أحمد» إلى سنوات مبكرة داخل أروقة أكاديمية ليفربول، حيث التحق بالنادي وهو في السادسة من عمره، ليكبر بين جدران واحدة من أقوى مدارس كرة القدم في أوروبا، ثم تدرج في كل المراحل السنية بثبات، حتى فرض اسمه ضمن أبرز عناصر فريق تحت 18 عاماً، قبل أن يوقع أول عقد احترافي له في صيف 2025 ويصعد إلى فريق تحت 21 عاماً، في خطوة تعكس ثقة النادي في موهبته وقدرته على التطور، وأصبح عنصراً مؤثراً في الثلث الهجومي للفريق، حيث سجل 7 أهداف وصنع 5 أخرى في مختلف البطولات، وشارك في منافسات دوري أبطال أوروبا للشباب. ويمتاز اللاعب بمرونة هجومية واضحة، ويجيد اللعب كمهاجم صريح أو خلف رأس الحربة، كما يستطيع التحرك على الأطراف، مع قدرته على صناعة الفرص واللعب بين الخطوط، ويعتبر خليفة «محمد صلاح» في النادي الإنجليزي.
ومن المنتظر أن يخوض المنتخب المصري مباراتين وديتين أمام نظيره العراقي، يومي 24 و28 فبراير الحالي، في إطار برنامج الإعداد للتصفيات القارية المؤهلة لنهائيات لكأس الأمم الأفريقية، حيث يدخل الفريق معسكره المغلق واضعاً أولى خطواته نحو حلم التأهل والمنافسة.
The coach of the Egypt U-20 national team, Wael Riyad, has called up player Karim Ahmed, who plays for Liverpool FC, to make his debut in the Pharaohs’ jersey at this age level. This decision is part of a technical vision aimed at expanding the selection base and monitoring Egyptian talents in various European leagues. This will be his first experience wearing the Egypt U-20 jersey for players born in 2007, after arriving in Cairo and joining the team’s camp tomorrow (Friday) at the National Teams Center in 6th of October City, in preparation for the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Karim Ahmed’s journey as a talented player began at an early age within the halls of Liverpool Academy, where he joined the club at the age of six, growing up within one of the strongest football schools in Europe. He progressed steadily through all age groups, eventually establishing himself as one of the key players in the U-18 team, before signing his first professional contract in the summer of 2025 and moving up to the U-21 team. This step reflects the club’s confidence in his talent and ability to develop, and he has become an influential player in the team’s attacking third, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists in various competitions, as well as participating in the UEFA Youth Champions League. The player is known for his clear attacking flexibility, excelling as a central striker or behind the main forward, and he can also move to the flanks, with the ability to create opportunities and play between the lines. He is considered the successor to Mohamed Salah at the English club.
The Egyptian national team is expected to play two friendly matches against their Iraqi counterpart on February 24 and 28, as part of the preparation program for the continental qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations finals. The team will enter its closed camp, taking its first steps towards the dream of qualification and competition.
