كشفت وسائل إعلام أمريكية، اليوم (الثلاثاء)، رصد المخابرات الأمريكية تحركات إيرانية لتلغيم مضيق هرمز الإستراتيجي.
ونقلت شبكة «سي بي إس نيوز»، عن المخابرات الأمريكية، تأكيدها أنها بدأت ترصد دلائل على أن إيران تتحرك لنشر ألغام في ممر الملاحة بمضيق هرمز، موضحة أن هذه المؤشرات ظهرت في تقارير استخباراتية حديثة تشير إلى استعدادات إيرانية محتملة لزرع ألغام في الممر المائي الإستراتيجي.
وذكرت الشبكة أن إيران تستخدم زوارق صغيرة قادرة على حمل لغمين إلى ثلاثة ألغام لكل منها، موضحة أنه ورغم أن مخزون الألغام الإيراني غير معروف علناً، إلا أن التقديرات على مر السنين راوحت بين 2000 و6000 لغم بحري من أنواع إيرانية وصينية وروسية الصنع.
وكان رئيس هيئة الأركان المشتركة في الجيش الأمريكي الجنرال دان كين، قد قال إن الولايات المتحدة هاجمت سفن زرع ألغام إيرانية، مضيفاً: «تواصل القيادة المركزية الأمريكية اليوم عمليات البحث عن سفن زرع الألغام ومنشآت تخزين الألغام، وضربها».
وكان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب قال إن الولايات المتحدة ستوفر الحماية لناقلات النفط عبر المضيق، لكن المخاوف لا تزال قائمة من استهداف السفن، خصوصاً في ظل التهديدات الإيرانية التي جاءت على لسان قائد بحرية الحرس الثوري.
يذكر أن الرئيس الفرنسي إيمانويل ماكرون أعلن أمس أن عدة دول أوروبية وآسيوية تخطط لمهمة مشتركة لتوفير الحماية للسفن في البحر الأحمر وقد يدخل مضيق هرمز ضمن المهمات.
American media revealed today (Tuesday) that U.S. intelligence has detected Iranian movements to mine the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The CBS News network reported that U.S. intelligence confirmed it has begun to observe signs that Iran is moving to deploy mines in the shipping corridor of the Strait of Hormuz, explaining that these indicators appeared in recent intelligence reports suggesting potential Iranian preparations to plant mines in the strategic waterway.
The network mentioned that Iran is using small boats capable of carrying two to three mines each, noting that although the Iranian stockpile of mines is not publicly known, estimates over the years have ranged between 2,000 and 6,000 naval mines of Iranian, Chinese, and Russian manufacture.
U.S. Army Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Dan Keen stated that the United States has attacked Iranian minesweeping vessels, adding: “The U.S. Central Command continues today to search for minesweeping vessels and mine storage facilities and to strike them.”
President Donald Trump had stated that the United States would provide protection for oil tankers passing through the strait, but concerns remain about targeting ships, especially in light of Iranian threats voiced by the commander of the Revolutionary Guard Navy.
It is noteworthy that French President Emmanuel Macron announced yesterday that several European and Asian countries are planning a joint mission to provide protection for ships in the Red Sea, which may include the Strait of Hormuz in its missions.
