أصدر الاتحاد العراقي لكرة القدم بيانا رسميا أكد فيه التواصل مع مع الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم «الفيفا»؛ بسبب صعوبة حصول عدد كبير من اللاعبين على تأشيرات دخول المكسيك، وهذا يعرقل مشاركته في مباراة الملحق العالمي المؤهلة إلى نهائيات كأس العالم 2026، المقررة في الولايات المتحدة والمكسيك وكندا، لتمثيل القارة الآسيوية لمواجهة الفائز من لقاء منتخبي بوليفيا وسورينام، حيث من المقرر أن تقام المباراة في 31 مارس بمدينة مونتيري بالمكسيك.
وأوضح الاتحاد العراقي أن استمرار أزمة المجال الجوي العراقي المغلق منذ أربعة أسابيع، وفق وزارة النقل، جعل نحو 40% من بعثة المنتخب عالقة وغير قادرة على السفر جويا.
وأشار تقرير صحفي إلى أن الخيار البري البديل يستغرق نحو 25 ساعة للوصول إلى تركيا، لكنه محفوف بالمخاطر الأمنية.
كما تأزم الوضع بسبب عدم توفر تأشيرات دخول المكسيك أو الولايات المتحدة للاعبين والجهاز الفني، وغياب سفارة مكسيكية في بغداد، بالإضافة إلى إغلاق منافذ التقديم في قطر والإمارات، وأدى ذلك بالفعل إلى إلغاء المعسكر التدريبي الذي كان مقررا في هيوستن.

This hinders their participation in the global playoff match qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, to represent the Asian continent against the winner of the match between the national teams of Bolivia and Suriname, which is set to be held on March 31 in Monterrey, Mexico.
The Iraqi Association clarified that the ongoing crisis of the Iraqi airspace being closed for four weeks, according to the Ministry of Transport, has left about 40% of the national team delegation stranded and unable to travel by air.
A press report indicated that the alternative land route takes about 25 hours to reach Turkey, but it is fraught with security risks.
The situation has also worsened due to the unavailability of entry visas to Mexico or the United States for the players and coaching staff, the absence of a Mexican embassy in Baghdad, in addition to the closure of application outlets in Qatar and the UAE. This has indeed led to the cancellation of the training camp that was scheduled in Houston.
