أكد رئيس الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم جياني إنفانتينو، مشاركة إيران في بطولة كأس العالم، رغم حالة الحرب القائمة بينها وبين الولايات المتحدة، قائلًا: «المنتخب الإيراني قادم بكل تأكيد، نعم، ونأمل بطبيعة الحال أن يكون الوضع بحلول ذلك الوقت قد آل إلى السلام».
وأضاف خلال كلمته في «منتدى الاستثمار في أمريكا» الذي تنظمه شبكة CNBC: «وكما ذكرت سابقا، فإن ذلك سيساعد بالتأكيد، ولكن يتعين على إيران أن تأتي، إنهم يمثلون شعبهم، وقد تأهلوا، واللاعبون يرغبون في اللعب».
وأشار رئيس الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم إلى أنه التقى المنتخب الإيراني في مدينة أنطاليا التركية قبل أسبوعين، قائلًا: «لقد ذهبت لرؤيتهم، وهم في الواقع فريق جيد للغاية، إنهم يرغبون حقا في اللعب، ويجب أن يلعبوا، إذ ينبغي أن تظل الرياضة بمنأى عن السياسة في الوقت الراهن».
وتابع: «نحن لا نعيش على القمر، بل نعيش على الأرض، ولكن كما تعلمون، إذا لم يكن هناك أحد آخر يؤمن بضرورة بناء الجسور والحفاظ عليها سليمة ومترابطة، فنحن من يقوم بهذه المهمة».
ومن المقرر أن يخوض المنتخب الإيراني مباراتين ضمن مرحلة المجموعات في مدينة إنجلوود بولاية كاليفورنيا، ومباراة واحدة في مدينة سياتل، حيث ستستضيف الولايات المتحدة بطولة كأس العالم بشكل مشترك مع كندا والمكسيك.
ويشارك المنتخب الإيراني في نهائيات كأس العالم، ضمن المجموعة السابعة التي تضم منتخبات: مصر، بلجيكا ونيوزيلندا.
وسبق، أن رفض فيفا طلب الاتحاد الإيراني لكرة القدم بنقل مباريات المنتخب في دور المجموعات إلى المكسيك بدلًا من إقامتها في أمريكا، في ظل الحرب الأمريكية الإسرائيلية على البلاد.
وأثارت حالة الحرب القائمة شكوكاً حول مشاركة إيران في بطولة كأس العالم، لا سيما في ظل صدور تصريحات علنية متضاربة من جانب المسؤولين في الحكومة الإيرانية والمسؤولين عن كرة القدم في البلاد، حيث صرح وزير الرياضة الإيراني أحمد دونيا مالي، في وقت سابق لوكالة الأناضول، بأنه يجب أن يضمن فيفا أمن أي منتخب وطني يشارك في كأس العالم، وإذا لم يكن الأمر كذلك، فلا ينبغي أن تسمح بإقامة مباريات كأس العالم في الولايات المتحدة.
وتابع: في ظل تلك الظروف فإن احتمال مشاركة إيران في مباريات كأس العالم بأمريكا ضئيل للغاية، ولكن إذا تم توفير الضمانات الأمنية اللازمة، فإن قرار الحكومة سيكون مشاركة المنتخب في البطولة.
ومن جانبه، لم يشجع الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب المنتخب الإيراني على حضور البطولة، مشيرا إلى مخاوف تتعلق بالسلامة والأمن.
The President of the International Football Federation, Gianni Infantino, confirmed Iran’s participation in the World Cup, despite the ongoing state of war between it and the United States, saying: “The Iranian team is definitely coming, yes, and we hope, of course, that by that time the situation has turned to peace.”
He added during his speech at the “Investment Forum in America” organized by CNBC: “As I mentioned earlier, this will certainly help, but Iran must come; they represent their people, they have qualified, and the players want to play.”
The President of the International Football Federation noted that he met the Iranian team in Antalya, Turkey, two weeks ago, saying: “I went to see them, and they are actually a very good team; they really want to play, and they should play, as sports should remain separate from politics at this time.”
He continued: “We do not live on the moon; we live on Earth, but as you know, if there is no one else who believes in the necessity of building bridges and keeping them intact and interconnected, we are the ones who undertake this task.”
The Iranian team is scheduled to play two matches in the group stage in Inglewood, California, and one match in Seattle, where the United States will co-host the World Cup with Canada and Mexico.
The Iranian team participates in the World Cup finals in Group Seven, which includes the teams: Egypt, Belgium, and New Zealand.
Previously, FIFA rejected the Iranian Football Federation’s request to move the team’s group stage matches to Mexico instead of holding them in America, amid the American-Israeli war on the country.
The ongoing state of war has raised doubts about Iran’s participation in the World Cup, especially in light of conflicting public statements from Iranian government officials and those responsible for football in the country. Iranian Sports Minister Ahmad Donyamalai previously stated to Anadolu Agency that FIFA must ensure the safety of any national team participating in the World Cup, and if not, World Cup matches should not be allowed to take place in the United States.
He continued: Under those circumstances, the likelihood of Iran participating in the World Cup matches in America is very slim, but if the necessary security guarantees are provided, the government’s decision will be to allow the team to participate in the tournament.
For his part, U.S. President Donald Trump did not encourage the Iranian team to attend the tournament, citing concerns related to safety and security.
