تحولت الشراكة التي جمعت بين مطور عقاري أسترالي مغمور وعائلة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب من احتفالات علنية ووعود بمشروع ضخم إلى خلافات حادة وتبادل للاتهامات، بعد انهيار خطة إنشاء “ترمب تاور” على الساحل الذهبي في أستراليا خلال أقل من ثلاثة أشهر.
وكان رجل الأعمال الأسترالي ديفيد يونغ، رئيس مجموعة “ألتوس العقارية”، قد ظهر في فبراير الماضي إلى جانب إريك ترمب داخل منتجع مار-أ-لاغو، معلنين اتفاقاً لتطوير برج وفندق فاخر يحمل علامة ترمب التجارية في منطقة جولد كوست الشهيرة بولاية كوينزلاند.
ووصف يونغ حينها علامة ترمب بأنها مرادف للفخامة والجودة، مؤكداً أن المشروع سيضم أعلى برج في أستراليا وأحد أفخم المنتجعات في البلاد.
كما نشر إريك ترمب تصميماً لمبنى ضخم بتكلفة تُقدّر بـ1.5 مليار دولار يحمل اسم العائلة ويطل على شواطئ المنطقة السياحية، لكن الحماس لم يدم طويلاً، إذ تحولت العلاقة هذا الأسبوع إلى سجال علني، بعدما أعلن يونغ عبر منصة لينكدإن، انسحابه من المشروع، رافضاً تقارير تحدثت عن تخلي منظمة ترامب عن الخطة.
وكتب يونغ بحروف كبيرة: «المطور هو من تخلى عن مشروع برج ترمب»، معتبراً أن الحرب الأمريكية في إيران جعلت اسم ترمب «ساماً بالنسبة للأستراليين»، رغم وصفه هذا الواقع بأنه «غير عادل» لأن العلامة التجارية – بحسب رأيه – لا علاقة لها مباشرة بسياسات الرئيس الأمريكي.
وأضاف أن العلاقة مع عائلة ترمب لا تزال جيدة، مشيراً إلى أنه يعرفهم منذ 19 عاماً، قبل أن يصبح دونالد ترمب شخصية سياسية معروفة عالمياً، مؤكداً أن قرار الانفصال تجاري بحت.
في المقابل، ردت منظمة ترمب، ببيان حمل نبرة حادة، أكدت فيه أنها كانت متحمسة للمشروع، لكنها اتهمت شركة «ألتوس» بعدم الوفاء بالتزاماتها المالية الأساسية.
وقالت المنظمة إن شريكها الأسترالي قدم وعوداً فارغة تلو الأخرى بشأن المشروع الضخم، مضيفة أن الشركة لم تتمكن حتى من تسديد الالتزامات المالية المطلوبة عند توقيع الاتفاقية.
كما اعتبرت أن محاولة يونغ تحميل الأحداث العالمية مسؤولية إنهاء الاتفاق ليست سوى وسيلة لصرف الانتباه عن إخفاقاته وعدم التزامه.
من جهته، نفى يونغ أن يكون الانفصال مرتبطاً بمشكلات مالية، مؤكداً أن الظروف السياسية، وعلى رأسها الحرب في إيران، دفعت فريقه إلى الاقتناع بضرورة إنهاء الشراكة.
ورغم انهيار الاتفاق، يؤكد الطرفان أنهما يعتزمان المضي قدماً في مشاريع منفصلة داخل أستراليا، وحتى صباح الأربعاء، كان موقع شركة «ألتوس» لا يزال يروج لمشروع «ترمب تاور» باعتباره مشروعها الرئيسي، مع عرض مقاطع تصميمية لمنتجع فاخر يضم مسابح مرتفعة ومنشآت ترفيهية، إضافة إلى إعلان بدء أعمال البناء في أغسطس المقبل.
إلا أن رئيس بلدية جولد كوست، توم تيت، أوضح أن المجلس المحلي لم يتلقَّ حتى الآن أي طلب رسمي للمشروع، مشيراً إلى أن القضية كانت اتفاقاً بين طرفين من القطاع الخاص.
وكان تيت قد أبدى في وقت سابق دعماً واضحاً للمشروع، معتبراً أن وجود علامة ترامب في جولد كوست سيرفع مكانة المنطقة عالمياً.
من جانبه، قال أستاذ التخطيط العمراني الفخري في جامعة غريفيث، بول بورتون، إن الساحل الذهبي يمتلك تاريخاً طويلاً من المشاريع العملاقة التي لم ترَ النور، موضحاً أن كثيراً منها تعثر بسبب صعوبة الحصول على التمويل أو التراخيص.
وأضاف ساخراً أن أدوات الذكاء الاصطناعي مثل Claude أو Copilot أو ChatGPT أصبحت قادرة على إنتاج تصاميم مذهلة خلال ثوانٍ، لكن تنفيذ تلك المشاريع على أرض الواقع لا يزال يتطلب تمويلاً حقيقياً ومؤسسات مالية تتعامل بحذر شديد.
The partnership that brought together a little-known Australian property developer and the family of U.S. President Donald Trump has transformed from public celebrations and promises of a massive project into sharp disputes and exchanges of accusations, following the collapse of the plan to build “Trump Tower” on the Gold Coast in Australia in less than three months.
Austrian businessman David Young, head of the “Altus Property Group,” appeared last February alongside Eric Trump at the Mar-a-Lago resort, announcing an agreement to develop a luxury tower and hotel bearing the Trump brand in the famous Gold Coast area of Queensland.
At that time, Young described the Trump brand as synonymous with luxury and quality, asserting that the project would include the tallest tower in Australia and one of the most luxurious resorts in the country.
Eric Trump also published a design for a massive building estimated to cost $1.5 billion, bearing the family name and overlooking the beaches of the tourist area, but the enthusiasm did not last long, as the relationship turned this week into a public dispute after Young announced via LinkedIn his withdrawal from the project, rejecting reports that the Trump Organization had abandoned the plan.
Young wrote in capital letters: “The developer is the one who abandoned the Trump Tower project,” considering that the American war in Iran made the name Trump “toxic for Australians,” despite describing this reality as “unfair” because the brand – in his opinion – has no direct connection to the policies of the American president.
He added that his relationship with the Trump family remains good, noting that he has known them for 19 years, before Donald Trump became a globally recognized political figure, asserting that the decision to part ways was purely a business one.
In response, the Trump Organization issued a statement with a sharp tone, confirming that it was excited about the project but accused the “Altus” company of failing to meet its basic financial commitments.
The organization stated that its Australian partner made one empty promise after another regarding the massive project, adding that the company was unable to even meet the financial obligations required at the signing of the agreement.
It also considered that Young’s attempt to blame global events for the termination of the agreement was merely a way to divert attention from his failures and lack of commitment.
For his part, Young denied that the separation was related to financial issues, asserting that political circumstances, primarily the war in Iran, led his team to believe that ending the partnership was necessary.
Despite the collapse of the agreement, both parties confirm their intention to move forward with separate projects within Australia, and as of Wednesday morning, the “Altus” company website was still promoting the “Trump Tower” as its main project, showcasing design clips of a luxury resort featuring elevated pools and recreational facilities, in addition to announcing the start of construction in August.
However, the Mayor of Gold Coast, Tom Tate, clarified that the local council has not yet received any official request for the project, noting that the matter was an agreement between two private sector parties.
Tate had previously expressed clear support for the project, considering that the presence of the Trump brand in Gold Coast would elevate the region’s status globally.
For his part, Paul Burton, an honorary professor of urban planning at Griffith University, stated that the Gold Coast has a long history of giant projects that never saw the light of day, explaining that many of them faltered due to difficulties in obtaining financing or permits.
He added sarcastically that artificial intelligence tools like Claude, Copilot, or ChatGPT have become capable of producing stunning designs in seconds, but executing those projects in reality still requires real funding and financial institutions that operate with extreme caution.
