يتقاسم بيليه وليونيل ميسي الرقم القياسي لأكبر عدد من المساهمات التهديفية في تاريخ كأس العالم، بعدما وصل كل منهما إلى 21 مساهمة. أحرز الأسطورة البرازيلية 12 هدفاً وقدّم 9 تمريرات حاسمة، فيما سجل النجم الأرجنتيني 13 هدفاً وصنع 8 أخرى. ويأتي خلفهما في القائمة كل من الألماني ميروسلاف كلوزه والبرازيلي رونالدو برصيد 19 مساهمة لكل منهما، ثم جيرد مولر بـ18 مساهمة.
وساهم بيليه بتسجيل 10 أهداف خلال مشوار البرازيل نحو التتويج بكأس العالم 1970 FIFA المكسيك، وهو رقم لم ينجح أي لاعب في تجاوزه بعد ذلك، فيما عادل كل من دييغو مارادونا وكيليان مبابي هذا الإنجاز لاحقاً، بعدما صنع الأول العدد ذاته من الأهداف في نسخة المكسيك 1986، والثاني في نسخة قطر 2022.
ويظل ليونيل ميسي اللاعب الوحيد الذي نجح في تقديم تمريرة حاسمة (صناعة هدف) في 5 نسخ مختلفة من كأس العالم، بينما يأتي خلفه كل من بيليه، وغريغورز لاتو، ودييغو مارادونا، وديفيد بيكهام، بعدما صنع كل منهم أهدافاً في 3 نسخ من البطولة.
فيما يتصدر اﻷلماني كلوزه قائمة الهدافين التاريخيين لكأس العالم بتسجيل 16 هدفاً، ويليه البرازيلي رونالدو بـ15 هدفاً، ومن ثم اﻷرجنتيني ليونيل ميسي برصيد 13 هدفاً، وبإمكانه تصدر القائمتين (المساهمات واﻷهداف) في حال تسجيله 4 أهداف في النسخة الحالية.
