ليست المشكلة في أن يكون الفصل الدراسي طويلاً في ذاته بل في أن يطول أكثر مما يحتمله المحتوى العلمي والمهاري المقدم للطالب، فعندما يمتد الزمن التعليمي دون محتوى يناسبه تتحول الأيام من فرصة للتعلم إلى عبء يومي، ومن مساحة للبناء إلى سبب مباشر للملل والغياب وضعف الدافعية.
فالتعليم لا يصبح أكثر جودة لأنه أطول ولا يصبح الطالب أكثر التزاماً لأن التقويم ممتد وإنما تتحقق جودة التعليم عندما يكون لكل أسبوع هدف واضح ومحتوى مؤثر وأثر ملموس في معرفة الطالب ومهارته وسلوكه، أما أن ينتهي المنهج قبل نهاية الفصل ثم يبقى الطالب في المدرسة دون برنامج نوعي فهذا خلل في تصميم الزمن التعليمي لا يعالج بالتشديد على الحضور أو الاكتفاء بتسجيل الغياب.
وتظهر هذه الإشكالية بوضوح في نهاية هذا الفصل الدراسي الثاني، إذ يعود الطلاب والطالبات إلى مقاعد الدراسة لمدة تقارب أسبوعين قبل الاختبارات النهائية في وقت تكون فيه معظم مدارس التعليم العام قد أنهت المناهج الدراسية وأغلق المعلمون والمعلمات ملفات الشرح الأساسية ولم يعد داخل الصف ما يوازي قيمة الحضور اليومي من محتوى علمي جديد أو برنامج مهاري منظم.
وهنا يبرز السؤال الذي ينبغي أن يصل إلى طاولة القرار لدى معالي وزير التعليم ماذا سيجد الطالب داخل المدرسة بعد انتهاء المنهج وقبل بدء الاختبارات، وهل يكفي أن نلزمه بالحضور لمجرد استكمال مدة الفصل الدراسي، وإذا كانت المناهج قد انتهت والطالب يدرك أن ما تبقى ليس إلا أياما فاصلة قبل الامتحان فلماذا لا تبدأ الاختبارات مباشرة أو لماذا لا يعاد تصميم هذه الفترة بما يجعلها ذات قيمة تعليمية وتدريبية حقيقية.
إن الغياب الجماعي في نهاية الفصول لا ينبغي أن يقرأ بوصفه تمردا طلابيا فقط بل بوصفه رسالة صريحة من الميدان، فالطالب لا يهرب من التعلم حين يجد قيمته لكنه يهرب من الفراغ حين يقدم له باسم التعليم، وحين يشعر أن المدرسة تطلب وقته دون أن تقدم له ما يوازي هذا الوقت فإن قناعته بالحضور تضعف وتضعف معها ثقة الأسرة بجدوى إلزامه بالدوام.
والأخطر أن بعض المدارس قد لا تسجل الغياب الفعلي بدقة خشية أن يؤثر ذلك في صورتها أو في مؤشرات أدائها وهنا تتضاعف المشكلة لأن تجميل الأرقام لا يصنع تعليماً ناجحاً وإخفاء الغياب لا يصنع انضباطاً حقيقياً، فالمدرسة التي لا تسجل الغياب كما هو لا تحمي سمعتها بل تؤجل أزمتها والنظام التعليمي الذي لا يقرأ الغياب بوصفه مؤشرا تربويا سيظل يعالج الأعراض ويترك السبب.
إن معالي وزير التعليم وهو يقود قطاعاً وطنيا مهماً يدرك أن التطوير لا يقاس بطول العام الدراسي وحده بل بقيمة ما يخرج به الطالب من معرفة ومهارة وسلوك، ولهذا فإن معالجة هذه الإشكالية لا تحتاج إلى إطالة زمنية جديدة بل إلى إعادة هندسة نهاية الفصل الدراسي بحيث تتحول من فترة انتظار إلى فترة أثر.
والحل الواقعي أن يكون الأسبوع الأخير قبل الاختبارات أسبوع مراجعة ذكية وتهيئة منظمة ومعالجة للفاقد التعليمي، وأن يكون الأسبوع الذي يلي الاختبارات أسبوعاً تدريبياً إلزامياً مرتبطاً بشهادة إنجاز في مهارات تعليمية وحياتية تناسب كل مرحلة.
بهذا التصور لا تضيع الأيام الأخيرة ولا يصبح الطالب غائباً جسدياً أو حاضراً بلا دافعية بل يصبح لكل يوم قيمة واضحة، فالأسبوع الأخير قبل الاختبارات يخصص للمراجعة المركزة والتهيئة النفسية والمعرفية أما ما بعد الاختبارات فيتحول إلى أسبوع مهاري تطبيقي يخرج منه الطالب بشهادة إنجاز موثقة في ملفه الدراسي.
في المرحلة الابتدائية تركز هذه الشهادة على القراءة والإملاء والخط والتعبير والإلقاء والثقة بالنفس وفي المرحلة المتوسطة على المهارات الرقمية واللغة الإنجليزية والتفكير الناقد والعمل الجماعي والسلامة الإلكترونية وفي المرحلة الثانوية على القدرات والتحصيلي وإدارة الوقت والوعي المالي والذكاء الاصطناعي والتهيئة الجامعية والمهنية.
الخلاصة أن التعليم العام لا يحتاج إلى أيام أكثر بقدر ما يحتاج إلى أثر أكبر، وحين يطول الفصل الدراسي ويقصر المحتوى يصبح الزمن عبئاً وتصبح المدرسة في نظر الطالب محطة انتظار لا بيئة تعلم أما حين يكون آخر أسبوع قبل الاختبارات للمراجعة والتهيئة ويكون ما بعد الاختبارات أسبوعاً تدريبياً بشهادة إنجاز فإن المدرسة تستعيد قيمتها ويصبح الحضور فرصة لا عقوبة ومكسباً لا إجراء.

The problem is not that the semester is long in itself, but that it extends beyond what the scientific and skill content presented to the student can bear. When the educational time stretches without suitable content, days turn from opportunities for learning into daily burdens, and from spaces for building into direct causes of boredom, absenteeism, and weakened motivation.
Education does not become of higher quality simply because it is longer, nor does the student become more committed because the evaluation period is extended. Rather, the quality of education is achieved when each week has a clear goal, impactful content, and a tangible effect on the student’s knowledge, skills, and behavior. If the curriculum ends before the semester is over and the student remains at school without a quality program, this is a flaw in the design of educational time that cannot be remedied by emphasizing attendance or merely recording absences.
This issue becomes particularly evident at the end of the second semester, as students return to their desks for nearly two weeks before the final exams, at a time when most public education schools have completed their curricula, and teachers have closed the essential teaching files. There is no longer anything in the classroom that equates to the value of daily attendance in terms of new scientific content or an organized skills program.
Here arises the question that should reach the decision-making table of His Excellency the Minister of Education: What will the student find inside the school after the curriculum ends and before the exams begin? Is it sufficient to require attendance merely to complete the semester duration? If the curricula have ended and the student realizes that what remains are just days leading up to the exam, why not start the exams immediately, or why not redesign this period to make it genuinely educational and training valuable?
The collective absenteeism at the end of the semesters should not be read merely as student rebellion but as a clear message from the field. The student does not escape learning when they find its value; rather, they flee from emptiness when it is presented to them in the name of education. When they feel that the school demands their time without offering anything that matches this time, their conviction in attending weakens, and with it, the family’s trust in the necessity of their attendance diminishes.
What is more dangerous is that some schools may not accurately record actual absenteeism for fear that it will affect their image or performance indicators. Here, the problem multiplies because beautifying the numbers does not create successful education, and hiding absenteeism does not create real discipline. A school that does not record absenteeism as it is does not protect its reputation but rather postpones its crisis, and an educational system that does not view absenteeism as an educational indicator will continue to treat symptoms while leaving the cause unaddressed.
His Excellency the Minister of Education, while leading an important national sector, understands that development is not measured solely by the length of the academic year but by the value of what the student gains in knowledge, skills, and behavior. Therefore, addressing this issue does not require a new extension of time but rather a redesign of the end of the semester so that it transforms from a waiting period into a period of impact.
The realistic solution is for the last week before the exams to be a week of intelligent review and organized preparation, addressing educational loss, and for the week following the exams to be a mandatory training week linked to a certificate of achievement in educational and life skills appropriate for each stage.
With this vision, the last days do not go to waste, and the student does not become physically absent or present without motivation; rather, each day has a clear value. The last week before the exams is dedicated to focused review and psychological and cognitive preparation, while the week after the exams transforms into a practical skills week from which the student emerges with a documented certificate of achievement in their academic file.
In the primary stage, this certificate focuses on reading, dictation, handwriting, expression, presentation, and self-confidence, while in the intermediate stage, it emphasizes digital skills, English language, critical thinking, teamwork, and online safety. In the secondary stage, it covers abilities, achievement tests, time management, financial awareness, artificial intelligence, and university and career preparation.
In summary, public education does not need more days as much as it needs a greater impact. When the semester is prolonged and the content is shortened, time becomes a burden, and the school, in the student’s view, becomes a waiting station rather than a learning environment. However, when the last week before the exams is for review and preparation, and the week after the exams is a training week with a certificate of achievement, the school regains its value, and attendance becomes an opportunity rather than a punishment, a gain rather than a procedure.
