طالب مجلس الأمن الدولي قوات الدعم السريع بوقف هجومها فوراً على مدينة الأبيض، عاصمة ولاية شمال كردفان السودانية، معرباً عن قلق بالغ إزاء التقارير التي تتحدث عن وقوع انتهاكات جسيمة بحق المدنيين في محيط المدينة، وسط تصاعد المخاوف من اتساع رقعة القتال في السودان.
وفي بيان صدر بإجماع أعضائه، أمس (السبت)، دعا مجلس الأمن جميع أطراف النزاع إلى الالتزام بالقانون الدولي الإنساني وحماية المدنيين والبنية التحتية المدنية، مشدداً على ضرورة ضمان وصول المساعدات الإنسانية بشكل آمن ودون عوائق إلى المتضررين من النزاع.
وأعرب المجلس عن قلقه العميق إزاء التصعيد العسكري المستمر في ولاية شمال كردفان، وخصوصاً الهجمات التي تستهدف مدينة الأبيض، التي تعد واحدة من أهم المدن الإستراتيجية في وسط السودان، لما تمثله من مركز حيوي يربط بين العاصمة الخرطوم وإقليم دارفور.
وأكد أعضاء المجلس أن استمرار العمليات العسكرية يفاقم الأزمة الإنسانية المتدهورة بالفعل في السودان، ويهدد حياة آلاف المدنيين، داعين الأطراف المتحاربة إلى الانخراط بجدية في جهود التهدئة والحوار من أجل التوصل إلى وقف دائم لإطلاق النار.
كما جدد مجلس الأمن دعمه الكامل لوحدة السودان وسيادته وسلامة أراضيه، مؤكداً أهمية التوصل إلى حل سياسي شامل ينهي الصراع المستمر ويضع البلاد على مسار الاستقرار.
الأبيض.. مدينة إستراتيجية في قلب المعركة
يأتي بيان مجلس الأمن في ظل تصاعد المواجهات حول مدينة الأبيض، التي تمثل مركزاً اقتصادياً ولوجستياً مهماً في السودان، إذ تعد بوابة رئيسية تربط ولايات دارفور بغرب البلاد مع الولايات الوسطى والعاصمة الخرطوم.
وشهدت المدينة خلال الأسابيع الأخيرة تصاعداً في التوترات العسكرية، ما أثار مخاوف إقليمية ودولية من اتساع دائرة القتال إلى مناطق جديدة قد تؤدي إلى تفاقم الأوضاع الإنسانية والأمنية.
3 سنوات على بدء الحرب
اندلعت الحرب في السودان في أبريل 2023 بين القوات المسلحة السودانية وقوات الدعم السريع، وتحولت سريعاً إلى واحدة من أكبر الأزمات الإنسانية في العالم، مخلفة عشرات الآلاف من القتلى والمصابين وملايين النازحين واللاجئين.
وتسعى الأمم المتحدة والاتحاد الأفريقي وعدد من القوى الإقليمية والدولية إلى دفع الأطراف السودانية نحو وقف إطلاق النار واستئناف العملية السياسية، إلا أن جهود الوساطة واجهت تحديات كبيرة بسبب استمرار المعارك واتساع نطاقها في عدة ولايات.
وتحظى مدينة الأبيض بأهمية خاصة في الحسابات العسكرية للطرفين، نظراً لموقعها الإستراتيجي على طرق الإمداد الرئيسية بين وسط السودان وغربه، ما يجعل السيطرة عليها هدفاً مهماً في مسار الصراع الدائر.
The United Nations Security Council has called on the Rapid Support Forces to immediately cease their attack on the city of Al-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state in Sudan, expressing deep concern over reports of serious violations against civilians in the vicinity of the city, amid rising fears of the fighting expanding in Sudan.
In a statement issued unanimously by its members yesterday (Saturday), the Security Council urged all parties to the conflict to adhere to international humanitarian law and protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, emphasizing the need to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those affected by the conflict safely and without obstacles.
The Council expressed its deep concern over the ongoing military escalation in North Kordofan, particularly the attacks targeting the city of Al-Obeid, which is one of the most important strategic cities in central Sudan, due to its role as a vital hub connecting the capital Khartoum with the Darfur region.
Council members affirmed that the continuation of military operations exacerbates the already deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Sudan and threatens the lives of thousands of civilians, calling on the warring parties to engage seriously in de-escalation efforts and dialogue to reach a permanent ceasefire.
The Security Council also reiterated its full support for the unity of Sudan, its sovereignty, and the integrity of its territory, emphasizing the importance of reaching a comprehensive political solution that ends the ongoing conflict and puts the country on a path to stability.
Al-Obeid.. A Strategic City at the Heart of the Battle
The Security Council’s statement comes amid escalating confrontations around the city of Al-Obeid, which represents an important economic and logistical center in Sudan, as it serves as a main gateway connecting the Darfur states in the west of the country with the central states and the capital Khartoum.
In recent weeks, the city has witnessed a rise in military tensions, raising regional and international concerns about the expansion of fighting into new areas that could worsen the humanitarian and security situation.
3 Years Since the War Began
The war in Sudan erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, quickly turning into one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world, leaving tens of thousands dead and injured and millions displaced and seeking refuge.
The United Nations, the African Union, and several regional and international powers are working to push the Sudanese parties towards a ceasefire and the resumption of the political process; however, mediation efforts have faced significant challenges due to the continuation of battles and their expansion in several states.
The city of Al-Obeid holds particular importance in the military calculations of both parties, given its strategic location on the main supply routes between central and western Sudan, making control over it a significant objective in the ongoing conflict.
