The Cultural Status Report in Saudi Arabia for 2025 revealed a connection between levels of cultural participation, age, and income. Frequent participation increased among higher-income groups, while older age groups recorded the lowest participation rates at 62%, compared to 83% among the younger age group. Meanwhile, visits to cinemas remained stable at around 69% over the past three years, unlike most cultural activities that experienced a decline in participation rates.
This was stated in the report “Cultural Status in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 2025: A Decade of Vision,” which was unveiled by the Ministry of Culture the day before yesterday. It tracked indicators of participation in cultural activities and their relation to age, gender, and income level, along with the development of rates of visits to cultural facilities and events.
The report clarified that the participation rate in cultural activities reached 74.8% after expanding the scope of the survey in its seventh cycle to include going to the cinema, while participation rates, excluding cinema visits, remained stable at around 69% over the past three years.
The results showed that age is one of the most closely related factors to cultural participation, with the age group of 18 to 24 years recording the highest participation levels at 83%, compared to 62% for the age group of 55 years and older, while the non-participation rate for the latter group reached 37.8%.
Regarding income, the report indicated an increase in the rate of frequent participation among higher-income groups, reflecting the connection between financial capability and regularity in cultural activities, and highlighting the importance of diversifying cultural offerings and expanding access opportunities for various segments of society.
Concerning gender, participation rates remained close between males and females, with a slight increase in female participation, while males recorded higher rates of frequent participation.
