The achievement of a seven-year-old American child has become the center of widespread controversy on social media, after he successfully climbed the famous El Capitan mountain in Yosemite National Park, a journey that supporters considered an extraordinary accomplishment, while critics viewed it as an unjustifiable risk for a child of that age.
The child managed, last May, to complete the climbing journey, becoming the youngest person to achieve this feat, under the supervision of his parents, American content creator Joe Evermore and his wife Ann, who continuously document their family trips and adventures in mountain climbing.
However, the celebration of the achievement quickly turned into a wave of sharp criticism, as some followers filed reports to child protection agencies, considering that involving a small child in such trips poses significant risks.
The father stated that the family faced a campaign of criticism and cyberbullying, explaining that they received a notice regarding the review of several complaints filed against them, but the relevant authorities decided not to take any further action regarding it.
Evermore defended his decision, emphasizing that the trip was carried out according to safety standards and specialized equipment, and that many of the critics lack sufficient experience in the nature of climbing sports to assess the actual level of risks.
He pointed out that the greatest concerns during trips do not relate to the climber falling due to safety systems, but to other factors such as falling objects from high areas, noting that prior planning and continuous training contribute to reducing the likelihood of danger.
Despite the ongoing criticism, the couple continues to share their family experiences in mountain climbing, holding on to their belief that proper training and preparation allow children to take on extraordinary challenges safely and thoughtfully.
