North Korea announced the testing of two types of strategic cruise missiles launched from submarines towards the East Sea, in a move aimed at assessing the operational readiness of its military systems and enhancing the capabilities of its naval forces.
The Korean Central News Agency explained that the tests, conducted on Wednesday, focused on verifying the efficiency of underwater combat systems and raising the readiness level of naval forces to carry out strategic missions, in addition to testing the reliability of military deterrence capabilities.
This step comes days after Pyongyang announced the launch of tactical ballistic missiles last Monday from the capital region towards the East Sea. The agency explained at that time that the tests aimed to evaluate the results of research related to the technical upgrade of one of the main components in its missile systems.
