The Italian coach of Manchester City, Enzo Maresca, has brought his club’s case back to the forefront after his statements this evening, in which he addressed the implications of the controversy surrounding the financial and administrative case, affirming that the current circumstances have strengthened the club’s cohesion and that the team has the ability to respond on the pitch.
Maresca said at the press conference ahead of their match on Saturday afternoon against Ipswich Town that the players, fans, and management have become closer since the controversy escalated, noting that the best response to the criticisms is to achieve victories and continue winning, and that the victory over Liverpool at Anfield in the last round is a step towards maintaining positive results in the upcoming match.
The Italian coach emphasized that he does not feel any additional pressure due to what is happening off the pitch, explaining: “I cannot control what happens off the pitch, so I focus on the upcoming matches,” referring to his desire to keep the players away from the ongoing controversy surrounding the club.
Maresca reiterated his complete confidence in the Manchester City officials, revealing that they explained the situation to him, and that his trust in the management was one of the reasons for his joining the club, affirming that he does not see the case as something that should affect the team’s daily work.
In discussing Pep Guardiola, Maresca revealed that he spoke with the former coach after the heavy loss to Paris Saint-Germain and they exchanged thoughts about the match, adding that Manchester City’s stadium will always be Guardiola’s home.
Maresca’s statements come at a time when the sports community is awaiting developments in the appeal regarding the case, amid questions about when it will be resolved and the potential implications for the club, while City continues to focus on competitions on the pitch, according to Maresca’s description.
