The Egyptian club Zamalek announced the suspension of first-team striker Nasser Mansi and referred him for investigation due to his behavior after scoring the winning goal against the Rwandan army last Friday in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the African Champions League.
Mansi Scores and Sparks Controversy
Nasser Mansi scored the only goal of the match with a shot from inside the penalty area in the 90th minute, before throwing the Zamalek jersey on the pitch and spitting in the direction of the substitutes’ bench and the coaching staff, expressing his anger over not participating regularly in the recent period, amidst attempts from his teammates to calm him down.
Apology and Financial Penalty
Mansi apologized to Zamalek club and its fans, while the club imposed a heavy financial penalty on him, before issuing a new statement announcing the player’s suspension and referral for investigation.
Zamalek’s Statement
The statement read: “Moataz Gamal, the head coach of the first football team at Zamalek Club, decided to refer Nasser Mansi, the team’s striker, for investigation and to suspend him from collective training until the investigation is completed, which the player will undergo after the team’s delegation returns from Rwanda today (Sunday), following the match against the Rwandan army in the African Champions League.”
The football director Abdel Nasser Mohamed is expected to submit a memorandum to the legal affairs department at Zamalek Club regarding the incident, in preparation for the investigation with the player.
The fate of Nasser Mansi’s return to collective training will be determined based on the results of the investigation he will undergo.
