The president of Al-Khaleej Club, Ahmed Khreida, confirmed that the victory over Al-Fateh with a score of 3-2 last night represents an important milestone in the team’s journey in the Saudi Pro League, as it gave Al-Khaleej their second consecutive win, providing a morale boost and greater stability, and enhancing their aspirations to perform better during the remainder of the season. He pointed out that injuries and fatigue were among the main reasons for the fluctuating results at the beginning of the journey.
Khreida explained that Al-Khaleej suffered from significant absences, most notably playmaker Angelo Volghini, who participated in only one and a half matches due to injury, in addition to the team’s top scorer Joshua King, who recently returned. The team also missed the services of midfielder Crespo and goalkeeper Anthony Morris in the match against Al-Fateh.
Khreida stated in a special interview with “Okaz” that these circumstances affected the team’s completeness and increased the physical burdens on the players. However, the available players showed a high fighting spirit against Al-Fateh, while the substitutions made by Portuguese coach Gomes contributed to changing the course of the match, confirming that the substitutes delivered an outstanding performance and compensated for the absence of several key players.
He added that the improvement in the last two matches and the return to victories are linked to Gomes’ new technical approach, which required some time for the players to adapt to his ideas and grasp his philosophy. He expressed optimism about continuing the correction and improvement with the return of injured players and the stabilization of the lineup.
Khreida appreciated the support of Al-Khaleej fans and their travel with the team between cities and their commitment to arriving early, confirming that their support contributed to motivating the players. He dedicated the victory to the fans of Qatif Governorate, wishing the team success in the remaining competitions of the season.
