Aba returned to the Roshen League this season 2026/2027 carrying the dreams of its fans, but the return that the south had long awaited quickly turned into a nightmare; only two points from 9 matches, with 7 losses and 2 draws, sitting in eighteenth and last place, and another loss against Neom with a score of 0-2 in the match held at King Khalid Sports City in Tabuk, as part of the eleventh round of the Saudi Professional League “Roshen League.” This is not just a faltering start, but numbers indicate that the team has entered the relegation tunnel early.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
The language of numbers is harsh on Aba, as it has become the weakest attack and the weakest defense statistically so far, and it has not won in 33 consecutive away matches since winning against Al-Adalah in the 2022/2023 season, which is the longest streak in the history of the league. A team without a victory, without character away from home, and without clear solutions on the field.
For his part, Abdullah Al-Yahya, one of the former club members, summarized the scene in one sentence: “Do the Abawis realize the magnitude of the danger, or will action come after it is too late?”
He added: “What is happening is concerning; the team does not need promises of a near return, it needs real work. The fans are not looking for justifications; they want a team that fights.”
He continued: “When you lose seven matches out of nine, we cannot talk about bad luck. There is a technical flaw, there are choices that have not succeeded, and there is a coaching staff that needs to find solutions, not repeat the same mistakes. The situation does not allow for leniency, and the management must clarify its position. What is its plan to stop the bleeding of points? Is there an anticipated technical intervention? Is there a review of the player list? Silence at this time increases the level of anxiety.”
Addressing Repeated Mistakes
The Asian football instructors Dr. Yahya Jabir and Abdullah Al-Mani agreed that what Aba is going through has gone beyond negative results to a crisis of performance and identity that needs urgent intervention.
Dr. Yahya Jabir said to “Okaz”: “Criticism is no longer limited to losses only, but has extended to the level of performance on the field and the ability of the coaching staff to address repeated mistakes and find solutions that restore balance to the team.”
He added: “The continuation of negative results necessitates a serious technical review; we cannot be satisfied with justifying losses or relying on upcoming matches. Wasting points in the early stages will make the task more difficult in the coming rounds.”
Is It Time for Change?
For his part, Asian instructor Abdullah Al-Mani said: “The numbers reinforce the call for change; Aba is in last place with two points from two draws and 7 losses. This is a reality that cannot be ignored.”
He continued: “The technical responsibility is the focus of the discussion, but calling for a change of coach does not absolve the management of its responsibility for contracts, preparation, and cohesion, especially after the extensive changes that the team’s roster has undergone.”
He concluded: “Aba does not need decisions to absorb the anger of the fans, but rather a real treatment that restores the team’s identity and character on the field.”
When Will the Management Act?
The issue of Aba today is no longer about seeking a win to break the 33-match away curse, but about saving an entire season before it slips away. The name Aba, as its fans repeat, is too big to be just a number completing the count of Roshen teams, and its history in the Professional League does not deserve to end with an early withdrawal scene towards the first division.
The question now is: Will the management of Aba act before the return becomes impossible?
