Al-Qadisiyah coach Brendan Rodgers expressed his pride in his players’ performance after the 1-1 draw against Al-Sadd of Qatar in the match held at Prince Mohammed bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam, as part of the third round of the AFC Champions League for the 2026-2027 sports season.
Rodgers said in the press conference: “I thank the players for their great effort; they fought until the end and showed strong character in coming back after Al-Sadd’s goal. The match was difficult due to the high humidity and having played a tough match two days earlier, and I see the draw as a fair result.”
He added: “We have five points from three matches, and we still have the opportunity to continue collecting points and advancing. I am proud of what the team has accomplished.”
Regarding the substitution of Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat, he clarified: “Mohammed is a distinguished player and has been performing well this season, and his numbers as a full-back are impressive. The decision to substitute him was tactical, considering he received a yellow card and the danger posed by the opponent on the same side. Turki Al-Amar made a good contribution after coming on.”
He continued: “We are facing some injuries and playing a large number of matches in hot conditions. I thank all the players for what they are doing. In football, we sometimes win, draw, or lose, and that is part of the game.”
In response to a question from “Okaz” regarding possession, Rodgers said: “We were not at the required level in the final third. We were not precise enough in our passing in attacking areas despite our quality. When we switched the play to the other side, we reached the spaces faster, but we did not capitalize on that.”
He concluded: “Some may expect us to win every match, but football does not work that way. We played a strong match on Friday against one of the best teams in Asia with a lot of physical effort, and then we played shortly after with not enough time to recover. The players gave everything they had, and we look forward to the next match.”
