Qatar denied today (Thursday) “categorically” the accusations of interfering in the Israeli elections or funding activities to influence their results, accusing Israeli politicians and media parties linked to them of launching claims that it described as misleading, with the aim of dragging its name into internal disputes.

The spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majid Al-Ansari, stated that his country is not concerned with political and electoral competition in Israel, affirming its rejection of using its name to serve electoral agendas or achieve political gains.

Al-Ansari emphasized that “silence will not be our strategy,” describing the accusations directed at his country as “contradictory.”

He pointed out that the accusations range from claims of buying Netanyahu’s loyalty to funding the Israeli left and influencing the votes of Arab voters, considering that the repetition of these allegations reflects an attempt to divert attention from internal political failures.

The Qatari spokesperson reiterated that the formation of the Israeli government is an internal matter in which Doha does not interfere, calling on any government resulting from the elections to adhere to international law and international legitimacy decisions, to seriously address the Palestinian issue, and to respect the rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He confirmed that the accusations will not affect Qatar’s continued efforts in mediation and diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives, and working with its regional and international partners to resolve conflicts through diplomatic means and achieve a just and comprehensive peace that enhances security and stability in the region.

The Qatari denial came after the head of the Israeli Central Elections Committee, Judge Noam Solberg, requested the head of the General Security Service “Shabak,” David Zini, to investigate allegations of foreign interference in the elections that took place (on Tuesday).

The “Likud” party, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, claimed that Qatar is behind funds suspected of being directed to groups working to encourage Arab citizens to vote, while Channel 12 reported that the investigation is based on intelligence information that reached the “Shabak” and was presented to Solberg.

Solberg conveyed, in a message published by Israeli media, that he was informed of serious suspicions regarding the exercise of unlawful influence on the elections through funding provided by foreign entities working against Israeli interests.

In contrast, the acting director-general of the Israeli Central Elections Committee, Dean Livni, rejected the accusations of widespread fraud, affirming that the voting took place in accordance with the law, and that, according to the information available to him, there is no evidence of systematic violations.
