Low-flying flights of the U.S. presidential aircraft over Washington, D.C. caused disruptions in air traffic, after the aircraft conducted two passes over the White House and nearby areas, coinciding with a Halloween celebration held by President Donald Trump for children on the evening of Thursday, October 29.
The Federal Aviation Administration announced a temporary suspension of air operations at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington to allow the aircraft to fly, resulting in delays for 202 flights, according to data from the flight tracking website “FlightAware.”
The flight sparked criticism from the Washington City Council due to the short notice provided, as the council reported that residents, stakeholders, and the airport received a warning only about 15 minutes before the flight, while airline officials mentioned they were notified less than an hour in advance.
The White House clarified that the flight was part of Halloween celebrations, while the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the flight had been coordinated in advance, and the suspension of air traffic was not an emergency measure.
