Despite the mutual escalation between Washington and Tehran, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baqaei, revealed the possibility of reaching an agreement in the coming few days. He stated at a press conference on (Monday) that “the basis of diplomacy with America is based on Iran’s proposal consisting of seven steps.”
Continued Exchange of Messages Through Intermediaries
Baqaei said: There is a chance to implement the proposal in the coming few days, but he accused Washington of seeking to undermine any diplomatic path. He pointed out that his country has clearly stated its demands, considering that “the ball is now in Washington’s court.”
He confirmed that the exchange of messages between the American and Iranian sides continues through intermediaries, revealing that Deputy Foreign Minister Gharib Abadi visited Doha to facilitate this, urging America to make its decision.
Meanwhile, a knowledgeable official revealed to Reuters that the Iranian negotiators left Doha yesterday, Sunday, without difficulties in the negotiations file. He announced that a draft proposal was circulated for feedback, with the possibility of holding another meeting for follow-up.
Progress Without a Final Outcome
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi clarified yesterday, Sunday, that “the talks with the Qataris are progressing but without reaching a final outcome so far.”
He added that the ongoing discussions focused on the 7-day proposal that his country presented to the American side last September (2026), which called for stopping the war, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, resuming negotiations on the nuclear file, releasing Iranian funds frozen abroad, and lifting the American maritime blockade on Iranian ports. However, the United States rejected it at that time, with President Donald Trump considering it a bad proposal.
Araqchi expressed hope that “the other side will act rationally and choose diplomacy,” referring to the United States. He confirmed that his country is “prepared for both defense and diplomacy.”
Trump Renewing Threats
President Donald Trump repeated his threat to resume strikes against Tehran. He said during a campaign rally that he might have to deliver a “devastating blow” to Iran at an unspecified time.
He added in front of his supporters during a campaign rally last night, Sunday, in Iowa ahead of the midterm elections scheduled for (Tuesday), “The only reason I haven’t finished with Iran yet… is that I want to be nice. I want to try to save all those lives if I can… but at some point, we will have to deliver a devastating blow to them.”
Iranian Defense Minister Mehrdad Akhlaghi vowed to respond “proportionately, decisively, and effectively” to any attack targeting his country. The spokesperson for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Hossein Mohammadi, stated that “in any conflict with America, there will be no geographical restrictions, as targets have been identified widely to inflict losses on the enemy,” according to him.
