لقي ستة أشخاص مقتلهم وأصيب 9 آخرون، بينهم ثلاثة من رجال الإطفاء وشرطيان، إثر حريق هائل اندلع في مبنى سكني مكوّن من طابقين بحي «صنست بارك» في منطقة بروكلين بمدينة نيويورك الأمريكية، أمس (الخميس).
وأفادت السلطات الأمريكية بأن الحريق اندلع نحو الساعة 1:40 فجراً بالتوقيت المحلي، قبل أن تمتد النيران سريعاً إلى جميع طوابق المبنى الخشبي، وتلحق أضراراً بأحد المنازل المجاورة، ما استدعى مشاركة أكثر من 200 من عناصر الإطفاء والطوارئ للسيطرة عليه.
وأوضحت إدارة الإطفاء في نيويورك أن أربعة أشخاص فارقوا الحياة في موقع الحادث، فيما توفي اثنان آخران بعد نقلهما إلى المستشفى متأثرين بإصاباتهما الخطيرة.
إنقاذ محاصرين وسط النيران
وتمكنت فرق الإطفاء من إنقاذ أربعة أشخاص من داخل المبنى، بينهم اثنان كانا محاصرين خلف قضبان النوافذ، في وقت كانت ألسنة اللهب تتصاعد من نوافذ المنزل وتنتشر في طوابقه.
واستغرقت عمليات السيطرة على الحريق نحو ثلاث ساعات، فيما تسببت النيران في أضرار جسيمة بالمبنى وتشريد عدد من السكان، الذين جرى توفير أماكن إقامة مؤقتة لهم.
بطارية ليثيوم في موقع الحادث
وكشفت السلطات عن العثور على بطارية من نوع «ليثيوم أيون» في موقع الحريق، دون التأكد من وجود علاقة بينها وبين اندلاع النيران.
وأكدت أن التحقيقات لا تزال جارية لتحديد أسباب الحريق وملابساته، مشيرة إلى أن المصابين التسعة يُتوقع نجاتهم.
ووصف عمدة نيويورك زهران ممداني الحادث بأنه مأساة مدمرة، معرباً عن تعازيه لأسر الضحايا، ومشيداً بجهود فرق الإطفاء والإنقاذ التي شاركت في التعامل مع الحريق.
Six people were killed and nine others were injured, including three firefighters and two police officers, as a massive fire broke out in a two-story residential building in the “Sunset Park” neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City, yesterday (Thursday).
U.S. authorities reported that the fire started around 1:40 a.m. local time, before the flames quickly spread to all floors of the wooden building, causing damage to a neighboring home, which necessitated the involvement of more than 200 firefighters and emergency personnel to control it.
The New York Fire Department stated that four people died at the scene, while two others passed away after being transported to the hospital due to their serious injuries.
Rescue of Those Trapped in the Flames
Fire crews managed to rescue four people from inside the building, including two who were trapped behind window bars, while flames were rising from the windows and spreading through the floors.
The firefighting operations took about three hours to control, while the fire caused significant damage to the building and displaced several residents, for whom temporary housing was provided.
Lithium Battery at the Scene
Authorities revealed that a “lithium-ion” battery was found at the fire scene, although it has not been confirmed whether it is related to the outbreak of the fire.
They confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to determine the causes and circumstances of the fire, noting that the nine injured are expected to survive.
New York Mayor Zahran Mamdani described the incident as a devastating tragedy, expressing his condolences to the victims’ families and praising the efforts of the firefighting and rescue teams that participated in dealing with the fire.
