قالت المديرة العامة لمنظمة التجارة العالمية نجوزي أوكونجو إيويالا إنها تتفق مع دعوات الولايات المتحدة لإصلاح نظام التجارة العالمي قبل عقد اجتماع مهم للمنظمة في الكاميرون الشهر القادم.
وفي العام الماضي، وقع الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب أمرا تنفيذيا فرض بموجبه رسوما جمركية تتراوح بين 10 و41% على واردات واشنطن من عشرات الدول.
ومن المقرر أن تصدر المحكمة العليا الأمريكية حكما بشأن قانونية هذه الرسوم.
وقالت إيويالا في مؤتمر ميونيخ للأمن اليوم (السبت): «قد لا تعجبنا هذه الإجراءات (الرسوم الجمركية الأمريكية)، لكن علينا إدراك ضرورة إصلاح أمور كثيرة تتعلق بنظام التجارة العالمي».
وأضافت «النظام صامد، لكنه ليس قويا، لذلك علينا تعزيزه عبر إجراء الإصلاحات اللازمة، وهذا ما نعمل عليه في منظمة التجارة العالمية»، لكنها لم تتطرق إلى مزيد من التفاصيل.
The Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, stated that she agrees with the United States’ calls for reforming the global trade system ahead of an important meeting of the organization in Cameroon next month.
Last year, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing tariffs ranging from 10% to 41% on Washington’s imports from dozens of countries.
The U.S. Supreme Court is set to issue a ruling on the legality of these tariffs.
Okonjo-Iweala said at the Munich Security Conference today (Saturday): “We may not like these measures (the U.S. tariffs), but we must recognize the necessity of reforming many aspects of the global trade system.”
She added, “The system is resilient, but it is not strong, so we need to strengthen it through the necessary reforms, and that is what we are working on at the World Trade Organization,” but she did not elaborate further.
