أعلنت وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية (البنتاغون)، في الساعات الأولى من صباح (الأربعاء)، خفض عدد ألوية القتال التابعة لها في القارة الأوروبية من أربعة إلى ثلاثة ألوية.
وأوضح البنتاغون في بيان صادر عن مساعد وزير الدفاع لشؤون العلاقات العامة، أن هذا التقليص جاء نتاج «مراجعة شاملة ومتعددة المستويات» لإعادة تقييم تموضع القوات الأمريكية واحتياجاتها العملياتية المستقبلية. وأدى هذا القرار إلى «تأخير مؤقت» في خطة نشر قوات أمريكية داخل بولندا، التي وصفها البيان بـ«الحليف النموذجي» في حلف شمال الأطلسي (الناتو).
تفعيل عقيدة “ترمب”
وربطت واشنطن بشكل مباشر بين هذه المراجعة العسكرية وأجندة الرئيس ترمب القائمة على مبدأ «أمريكا أولاً»، بهدف الضغط على العواصم الأوروبية لدفعها نحو تحمل «المسؤولية الأساسية» عن الدفاع التقليدي في القارة، وتقليل اتكالها التاريخي على المظلة العسكرية الأمريكية.
رسالة أمريكية للحلفاء: وجه البنتاغون رسالة صريحة إلى بقية أعضاء الناتو، مشيراً إلى أن بولندا «أظهرت القدرة والعزم على الدفاع عن نفسها، وينبغي على بقية الحلفاء حذو حذوها»، في إشارة واضحة لمطالبة الدول الأوروبية برفع إنفاقها الدفاعي.
تنسيق مستمر ومستقبل معلق
وفي إطار ترتيبات هذا القرار، أجرى وزير الدفاع الأمريكي بيت هيغسيث اتصالاً هاتفياً بنظيره البولندي، نائب رئيس الوزراء فلاديسواف كوسينياك كاميش، لبحث الترتيبات الجديدة المرتبطة بالانتشار العسكري. ورغم خطوة التقليص، جددت واشنطن التزامها بالحفاظ على «وجود عسكري قوي» فوق الأراضي البولندية.
أما بشأن الوضع النهائي للقوات المتبقية في القارة، فقد أكد البنتاغون أن حسم مصيرها مؤجل، بانتظار مزيد من التحليلات العسكرية والاستراتيجية، وربط ذلك بمدى جدية الحلفاء الأوروبيين في تقديم مساهمات حقيقية للدفاع عن قارتهم.
The U.S. Department of Defense (the Pentagon) announced in the early hours of Wednesday that it is reducing the number of its combat brigades in Europe from four to three brigades.
The Pentagon clarified in a statement issued by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs that this reduction is the result of a “comprehensive and multi-level review” to reassess the positioning of U.S. forces and their future operational needs. This decision has led to a “temporary delay” in the plan to deploy U.S. troops within Poland, which the statement described as a “model ally” in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Activation of the “Trump Doctrine”
Washington directly linked this military review to President Trump’s agenda based on the principle of “America First,” aiming to pressure European capitals to take on “the primary responsibility” for conventional defense on the continent and to reduce their historical reliance on the U.S. military umbrella.
U.S. Message to Allies: The Pentagon sent a clear message to the other NATO members, indicating that Poland “has demonstrated the capability and determination to defend itself, and the other allies should follow its lead,” in a clear reference to urging European countries to increase their defense spending.
Ongoing Coordination and Uncertain Future
In the context of this decision, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth made a phone call to his Polish counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, to discuss the new arrangements related to military deployment. Despite the reduction step, Washington reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a “strong military presence” on Polish soil.
As for the final status of the remaining forces on the continent, the Pentagon confirmed that the fate of these forces is pending, awaiting further military and strategic analyses, and linking it to the seriousness of European allies in making genuine contributions to the defense of their continent.
