The British police have charged two individuals with murder in connection with the death of footballer Ezekiel Williams (26 years old), a midfielder for Hendon FC, who succumbed to serious injuries sustained during an assault in Milton Keynes, southeastern England.
The Thames Valley Police stated that the accused are aged 28 and 21, and each has been charged with murder, while a third individual, aged 30, has been released on conditional bail after being arrested on suspicion of assisting one of the suspects.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, November 1, when police received a report from the local ambulance service shortly after 1:50 AM regarding Williams being assaulted in Milton Keynes. The player was taken to the hospital in critical condition but passed away the following day due to his injuries.
An initial examination of the body revealed that a head injury was the preliminary cause of death, while the major crimes unit has taken over the investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
Williams’ career was not limited to his last club, as he joined Hendon last September and successfully scored his first goal for the team against Jersey Bulls on October 24, just about 10 days before his death.
Hendon competes at the eighth level of the English football league system, and the player had previously worn the shirts of several clubs, including Hastings United, Ascot United, Marlow, Norwood, Harrow Borough, and Hayes & Yeading United.
The club mourned Williams with heartfelt words, describing him as a humble and generous person with a present sense of humor, affirming that he quickly became one of the most popular players in the dressing room due to his hard work, team spirit, and dedication to serving the team.
The club also announced the postponement of their match against Woodford Town in the London Senior Cup, in respect for the memory of their late player, while the league he participated in expressed its condolences, praising his career and good relationships with the clubs he represented.
Williams was not only a player but also worked as a talent development officer at the “Journey of a Pro” foundation, which focuses on training young players in West London, helping several talents get closer to achieving their professional dreams.
In the context of the investigations, the British police renewed their appeal for witnesses to provide any information or video recordings from surveillance cameras, mobile phones, or dashcams that may assist in uncovering the circumstances of the assault, confirming that there is no wider threat to the local community as a result of the incident.
