In relations between countries, as in relations between individuals, the true nature of positions is tested in times of disagreement. It is easy to raise slogans of brotherhood and good neighborliness in times of concord, but their true value emerges when interests diverge and visions clash. It is then that we see who respects the etiquette of disagreement, who turns it into insult, who preserves the right of neighborliness, and who mistakenly believes that enmity grants them the right to transgress.
From this standpoint, the outbursts from some voices against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia necessitate a clear stance; criticism has its space, and disagreement has its legitimacy, but insult, slander, and distortion of facts do not gain legitimacy, no matter how loud the voices of their proponents or how their justifications change.
Saudi Arabia has chosen to base its dealings with its brothers on respect, to give wisdom its chance, and to keep the doors of understanding open. This approach reflects the state’s confidence in itself and its awareness of its responsibilities; established countries weigh their positions against the interests of their peoples and the security of their surroundings, and they know when to speak, how to act, and what deserves a response.
However, the error begins when some read this patience incorrectly, mistaking self-restraint for retreat, and treating the leniency of the position as an open space for transgression. Here, the message should be clear: Saudi Arabia has its patience, its dignity, and its respect for others necessitates mutual respect, and its sovereignty and honor are not subject to bargaining.
In the record of the Kingdom with its brothers, there are positions of support, aid, relief, and backing for stability. These positions are not invoked to turn goodwill into a political invoice, but because fairness requires that facts not be erased at the first disagreement, and that memory not be reshaped according to the needs of enmity. The differing party has the right to explain its position, and it is their duty to preserve the truth in its place.
And the Saudis, who take pride in what their homeland has provided, do not expect anyone to relinquish their opinion in exchange for assistance, nor to agree with every position taken by the Kingdom. What they reject is for disagreement to become a pretext for insult, and for respect for neighborliness to be met with rhetoric targeting the homeland, its leadership, and its people, only to be asked to consider that a passing opinion.
The difference is clear between criticism that discusses a decision or policy in a responsible language, and rhetoric that deliberately seeks to belittle and incite. The former can be debated with reason, while the latter reveals its owner’s inability to manage their disagreement with respectful tools. Raising one’s voice does not lend credibility to the statement, just as repeating an insult does not turn it into a truth.
In contrast, loyalty to the values of the Kingdom requires that the response remains measured and fair. Peoples should not bear the burdens of individuals, nor should an entire country be reduced to an insulting voice. In neighboring countries, there are brothers who preserve goodwill, recognize the value of Saudi Arabia, and cling to relationships that deserve to be protected from attempts at corruption. Our firmness towards transgressors should be matched by our fairness to all who uphold brotherhood and the right of neighborliness.
Defending Saudi Arabia is a responsibility that requires strength of argument, precision of words, and confidence in the homeland. The stronger and fairer our discourse, the more capable it is of exposing transgressions and invalidating their arguments. The homeland we cherish deserves a defense that befits its stature, expresses its values, and preserves the nobility of its position.
To those who overstep, we say: Reflect on the emblem of the Kingdom; the two swords and the palm tree, and what it embodies of strength and growth. Behind this emblem is a state that knows its worth, a people proud of their homeland and leadership, and a will that preserves its achievements and safeguards its dignity.
Saudi Arabia will continue to extend its hand in goodness, preserve the affection of its brothers, and grant wisdom its place. Its respect will remain a right it upholds, its good neighborliness a value it protects, and its dignity a limit it does not accept to be transgressed.
May God preserve the great Saudi Arabia, and may God protect its honorable rulers and loyal people, and may He continue to grant it glory, security, and stability.
