A Croatian man’s visit to the headquarters of (Bugatti Rimac) in search of a job opportunity turned into an extraordinary incident when he took advantage of the presence of a key for a (Bugatti Chiron) inside the premises and drove off with it across several countries, igniting a chase that ended with his arrest and the recovery of the luxury car.
According to what the company’s CEO revealed, the man, who is in his thirties, arrived at the company’s headquarters near the Croatian capital, Zagreb, with the aim of looking for a job. However, he was surprised to find a (Bugatti Chiron) parked with its key inside, so he decided to drive it away instead of applying for a job.
The employees did not notice the car’s disappearance immediately, as the company’s president was accustomed to leaving the keys of his cars inside, including the (Bugatti Chiron) and (Rimac Nevera). However, one witness reported seeing an unknown person leaving with the vehicle, prompting verification processes that confirmed the car had been stolen.
The company president quickly informed the police and utilized the tracking data embedded in the car to determine its location, after the information indicated it was heading towards Slovenia. He did not stop there; he took his own (Porsche 911) and set off after it, despite the time advantage that gave the thief nearly an hour’s head start.
As the car crossed into Austrian territory, the company’s team continued to send real-time updates of its location to the authorities, before the police successfully stopped the driver and recovered the vehicle, which is valued at over three million euros after taxes and fees.
While at a police station in Austria, the CEO met with the detained man, who explained that he had intended to head to Germany after unexpectedly deciding to drive the car. Despite the vehicle suffering some damage, the company president stated that he did not wish to file a personal complaint against him, considering that the damages were repairable and that the most important thing was that no one was harmed.
The CEO noted that his meeting with the man left him with the impression that he was facing difficult personal circumstances, which led him to express some sympathy towards him. However, he emphasized that this does not mean closing the case, as the relevant authorities in Croatia and Austria will continue their legal proceedings due to the high value of the car.
The company president admitted that his habit of leaving car keys inside contributed to the incident, affirming that the sense of security he had experienced for years in Croatia led him to this habit. However, he learned a lesson he would not forget and vowed not to repeat it in the future.
