As the midterm elections for Congress approach on November 3, and the chances for Republicans diminish, disagreements within President Donald Trump’s team are escalating, amid accusations among his senior advisors regarding the faltering electoral strategy, and speculation about changes in the White House political team.
Reuters reported from informed sources that Trump has criticized the management of campaign spending, the efforts to redraw district lines, and candidate selection, questioning why the funds injected into the campaign have not reflected positively on Republican poll results.
Part of the tension centers on James Blair, head of the political action committee “MAGA Inc.” supporting Trump, and Suzy Wiles, the White House senior staffer. According to sources, the two have exchanged blame over the setbacks, with Wiles holding Blair responsible, while the latter blamed the White House legislative affairs team.
Questions about Blair’s future have increased following his trip to the Republic of Srpska, accompanied by Chris Lasavita, to provide electoral consulting for financial compensation, according to media reports. This raised criticisms within the White House regarding conflicts of interest and the potential distraction of Blair from preparing for the U.S. elections.
Trump described Blair and Lasavita as outside advisors, warning that their positions could be terminated if conflicts of interest were proven. He defended Wiles, affirming her continued role despite speculation about her future.
Regarding spending, Trump raised questions about the effectiveness of nearly $200 million spent by the “MAGA Inc.” committee, according to public records, without achieving a clear improvement in Republican indicators. He expressed concern over the results of redistricting, particularly in Texas, where Republicans fear the plan could lead to adverse outcomes.
Polls indicate a lead for Democrats in the House race, while the competition for the Senate remains close. A loss for Republicans in the House could hinder Trump’s legislative agenda, as well as grant Democrats broader oversight powers over his administration. Despite Trump’s intensified campaign rallies, his popularity has declined to low levels, amid voter concerns over rising living costs and dissatisfaction with the Iran war, increasing pressure on the Republican Party ahead of the vote.
