The countries of the Middle East have not revealed their relationships, positions, and interests, nor managed their crises as clearly and transparently as they do now. This is a natural result of the political, economic, and military exposure of international powers in the West and East, led by the United States, China, and Russia. This international exposure, following the American-Iranian war, has become a reflection of the existential threat level to the geography of the region and its economic interests on one hand, and an effective driver for its countries to build alliances, restore balances, and outline priorities and agendas on the other hand. In between, global events here and there are trying to allow the countries of the region to regain their presence on the global scene and read between the lines of reactions, aiming to test the level of strength and stability with minimal damage.
One of the most important manifestations of exposure in this complex political scene today is embodied in the inability of traditional international and regional powers to impose unilateral equations, which has led to the erosion of the areas of ambiguity and gray maneuvering that they have relied on for decades. Additionally, there is the question of the effectiveness of direct military power in resolving conflicts, and the emergence of indirect negotiations through “back channels” and proxies as the sole tool to prevent slipping into comprehensive confrontations that threaten the existential interests of all international and regional parties. Furthermore, there is a decline in the reliability of the security and political guarantees that Western powers, led by the United States, used to provide in protecting geography and vital energy corridors.
This exposure of international powers after the American-Iranian war has also led the countries of the Middle East to reveal their transformation from a venue for receiving international policies to an active hub in reshaping the global order through diversifying comprehensive alliances and adopting more independent policies based on strategic balancing, geopolitical pragmatism, and economic partnerships that are multidimensional and non-exclusive. Additionally, the pivotal countries of the region have shifted from a phase of managing crises by proxy or waiting to leading diplomatic movements to impose calm, protect geographical and economic sovereignty, and redraw the map of balances based on their sustainable national priorities.
The current events in the Middle East will once again recalibrate the balances of active powers, and this is no longer just a possibility but a reality that imposes itself through the birth of a multipolar regional system, where interests are managed based on parity and absolute pragmatism instead of dependency or closed axes. This is a historic opportunity to detach the Middle East from being “an alternative battleground for others” to becoming a fundamental pillar in shaping the rules of the new global order.
Today, the countries of the region are united to prevent the outbreak of a new war between America and Iran and are seeking a peaceful solution to end the crisis. This stance remains the proposed option, at least at this stage, and no matter how much the wave of military threats escalates, the calculations and alliances of the countries of the Middle East are more prepared than ever, with a vision and capability to deal with any potential repercussions.
This, in itself, is sufficient to prove the level of readiness to enter the new global order with a balanced independence in front of international powers that still possess structural pressure tools through the global financial system or technical and military supply chains. However, the most important thing remains to repair the relationships of the countries in the region towards more regional alliances and to reduce the margins of differences based on the extent of the economic or security interests of the regional countries directly linked to those powers.
