أوصت لجنة المسابقات في الاتحاد الآسيوي لكرة القدم بسلسلة من التحسينات الاستراتيجية على البطولة الأبرز للأندية في القارة، دوري أبطال آسيا للنخبة 2024-2025، يتصدرها الانتقال إلى نظام يضم 32 فريقاً اعتباراً من موسم 2026-2027.
وتؤكد هذه الإصلاحات التزام الاتحاد الآسيوي لكرة القدم بمواصلة تعزيز الشمولية والتميّز في مختلف أنحاء القارة، إلى جانب إدخال مسار تأهّل أكثر قوة إلى الأدوار الإقصائية.
توسيع مرحلة الدوري اعتباراً من موسم 2026-2027يعد هذا الجانب محور هذا التطور، حيث سيرتفع عدد الأندية المشاركة من 24 إلى 32 فريقاً. وبموجب الهيكل الجديد، ستستمر البطولة في الانقسام بالتساوي إلى منطقتي الشرق والغرب، بواقع 16 فريقاً لكل منطقة. ويهدف هذا التوسع إلى إتاحة الفرصة أمام الأندية النخبوية للتنافس مع أفضل فرق القارة، إلى جانب تحفيز معايير أعلى من الاحترافية والأداء في الدوريات المحلية عبر آسيا.
معايير التأهل
كما سيتم تعديل معايير التأهل إلى دور الـ16، على أن يتم تطبيقها بعد موسم 2026-2027، وذلك لزيادة أهمية مرحلة الدوري. وبحسب النظام الجديد، ستتأهل الأندية التي تحتل المراكز من الأول إلى السادس في كل منطقة مباشرةً إلى دور الـ16. وفي تغيير لافت عن الأنظمة السابقة، فإن الأندية التي تنهي المرحلة في المراكز من السابع إلى العاشر لن تغادر المنافسة، بل ستنتقل إلى مرحلة فاصلة مستحدثة ضمن الأدوار الإقصائية.
ملحق الأدوار الإقصائية
يحصل الفريق الأعلى تصنيفاً في كل مواجهة ضمن هذه المرحلة الفاصلة – وتحديداً أصحاب المركزين السابع والثامن – على أفضلية اللعب على أرضه، كمكافأة على نتائجه في مرحلة الدوري. ويتأهل الفائزون من هذه المواجهات إلى استكمال عقد المتأهلين إلى دور الـ16، بما يضمن بقاء جميع المراكز ذات أهمية حتى الجولة الأخيرة.
ونظراً للازدحام الحالي في روزنامة المنافسات العالمية، لن يتم تطبيق هذه المرحلة الفاصلة في موسم 2026-2027، على أن يتم إدخالها في المواسم اللاحقة.

The Asian Football Confederation’s Competitions Committee has recommended a series of strategic improvements to the continent’s premier club competition, the AFC Champions League for the elite 2024-2025, led by the transition to a 32-team format starting from the 2026-2027 season.
These reforms affirm the AFC’s commitment to continue enhancing inclusivity and excellence across the continent, alongside introducing a more robust qualification pathway to the knockout stages.
The expansion of the league phase starting from the 2026-2027 season is the focal point of this development, as the number of participating clubs will increase from 24 to 32 teams. Under the new structure, the tournament will continue to be divided equally into the eastern and western regions, with 16 teams in each region. This expansion aims to provide elite clubs the opportunity to compete with the best teams in the continent, while also stimulating higher standards of professionalism and performance in domestic leagues across Asia.
Qualification Criteria
Qualification criteria for the Round of 16 will also be adjusted, to be implemented after the 2026-2027 season, in order to increase the significance of the league phase. According to the new system, clubs finishing in the top six positions in each region will qualify directly for the Round of 16. In a notable change from previous systems, clubs finishing in the seventh to tenth positions will not be eliminated from the competition; instead, they will advance to a newly introduced playoff stage within the knockout rounds.
Playoff Stage
The highest-ranked team in each matchup during this playoff stage – specifically the seventh and eighth place teams – will enjoy the advantage of playing at home, as a reward for their league phase results. The winners of these matchups will complete the list of qualifiers for the Round of 16, ensuring that all positions remain significant until the final round.
Given the current congestion in the global competition calendar, this playoff stage will not be implemented in the 2026-2027 season, but will be introduced in subsequent seasons.
This recent expansion reinforces the AFC’s commitment to providing a more inclusive and commercially viable continental platform, contributing to the broader representation of elite football in the continent, ensuring that the AFC Champions League remains at the forefront of the global football landscape, and delivering a distinctive sporting experience for fans and all stakeholders.
It is noted that all decisions require the approval of the AFC Executive Committee before coming into effect.
