The Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov returned to the G20 meetings, which were held yesterday (Thursday) in Bangkok, amid American welcome and European objections, in a move that reflects the divergence of Western positions regarding Moscow’s participation in international economic talks.
According to CNBC, Siluanov and the Deputy Governor of the Russian Central Bank, Elizaveta Danilova, were included in the Russian delegation participating in the meetings of finance ministers and central bank governors, held on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
Despite the United States, which holds the G20 presidency this year, welcoming the return of Russian participation, the Russian delegation was absent from the traditional group photo of the meeting, following protests expressed by European officials.
The finance ministers concluded their meetings without issuing a joint statement, amid ongoing disagreements over the Russian war in Ukraine, tensions in the Middle East, and trade imbalances, while U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Pisenet was absent from the meeting.
