تحولت رحلة طالب بريطاني لتعلّم اللغة العربية في الرياض إلى تجربة إنسانية استثنائية، صنعت له صداقات عابرة للثقافات، وعرّفته على كرم الضيافة السعودية، حتى انتهت بإقامة أصدقائه السعوديين حفل زفاف له في العاصمة الرياض، بحضور ضيوف من جنسيات متعددة.
ويروي الطالب البريطاني أبرار، الدارس في مركز «أبجد» لتعليم اللغة العربية التابع لمجمع الملك سلمان العالمي للغة العربية، تفاصيل رحلته مع تعلم اللغة العربية، واندماجه في المجتمع السعودي، وما لمسه من ترحيب وتقبّل وانفتاح، قائلاً: «قابلت أشخاصاً لخمس دقائق فقط.. ثم أصبحوا كالإخوة».
ووصل أبرار إلى الرياض بهدف تعلّم اللغة العربية، لكنه وجد نفسه يعيش تجربة مختلفة عمّا كان يتوقعه؛ إذ تجاوزت علاقته بالمكان حدود القاعات الدراسية إلى تفاصيل الحياة اليومية، من المجالس والمقاهي إلى الزيارات واللقاءات الاجتماعية، التي وصفها بأنها تصنع شعور الألفة بسرعة لافتة.
وخلال زيارة ثقافية إلى أحد معارض التمور في الرياض، تعرّف أبرار على شبان سعوديين، لتتحول المعرفة العابرة سريعاً إلى صداقة متينة، امتدت من اللقاءات العابرة إلى المجالس والزيارات وتبادل الاهتمام، في صورة عكست طبيعة الترابط الاجتماعي في المجتمع السعودي.
ومع مرور الوقت، توطدت العلاقة بين أبرار وأصدقائه السعوديين، وعندما علموا بزواجه قبل وصوله السعودية، قرروا إقامة حفل زفاف آخر له في الرياض في مبادرة إنسانية لم يكن يتوقعها، خصوصاً أنه جاء إلى المملكة طالباً لتعلّم اللغة فقط.
وفي ليلة الزفاف، اجتمع حول أبرار أصدقاء من ثقافات وجنسيات مختلفة، شملت كوريا وكازاخستان وطاجيكستان ونيوزيلندا وإندونيسيا وباكستان وهولندا وأوزبكستان وسويسرا والفلبين، في مشهد جمعته اللغة العربية ووحّدته القيم الإنسانية.
ويؤكد أبرار أن أكثر ما سيبقى في ذاكرته ليس الدراسة فحسب، بل الروح الاجتماعية التي لمسها في المجتمع السعودي، إذ يمكن لمصافحة عابرة أن تتحول إلى صداقة راسخة، وذكرى لا تُنسى.
يُذكر أن برنامج تعليم اللغة العربية يمتد لأربعة مستويات تعليمية على مدى 8 أشهر، ويعتمد على تعليم اللغة من خلال الثقافة السعودية، إلى جانب تنظيم رحلات ثقافية وإثرائية أسبوعية، فيما يضم البرنامج نحو 166 طالباً يمثلون أكثر من 45 جنسية حول العالم.
A British student’s journey to learn Arabic in Riyadh turned into an extraordinary human experience, creating cross-cultural friendships and introducing him to Saudi hospitality, culminating in his Saudi friends throwing a wedding party for him in the capital, Riyadh, with guests from various nationalities.
The British student Abrar, who studies at the “Abjad” Center for Arabic Language Education affiliated with the King Salman Global Center for the Arabic Language, recounts the details of his journey with learning Arabic, his integration into Saudi society, and the warmth, acceptance, and openness he experienced, saying: “I met people for just five minutes… and then they became like brothers.”
Abrar arrived in Riyadh with the goal of learning Arabic, but he found himself living an experience different from what he had expected; his relationship with the place transcended the classroom to the details of daily life, from gatherings and cafes to visits and social meetings, which he described as creating a sense of familiarity at a remarkable speed.
During a cultural visit to one of the date exhibitions in Riyadh, Abrar met some young Saudis, and the fleeting acquaintance quickly transformed into a strong friendship, extending from brief encounters to gatherings, visits, and shared interests, reflecting the nature of social bonding in Saudi society.
As time passed, the relationship between Abrar and his Saudi friends deepened, and when they learned of his marriage before he arrived in Saudi Arabia, they decided to throw another wedding party for him in Riyadh as a humanitarian initiative he did not expect, especially since he came to the Kingdom solely as a student to learn the language.
On the wedding night, Abrar was surrounded by friends from different cultures and nationalities, including Korea, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, New Zealand, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Netherlands, Uzbekistan, Switzerland, and the Philippines, in a scene united by the Arabic language and shared human values.
Abrar emphasizes that what will remain in his memory is not just the study, but the social spirit he felt in Saudi society, as a fleeting handshake can turn into a lasting friendship and an unforgettable memory.
It is worth noting that the Arabic language program spans four educational levels over eight months, focusing on teaching the language through Saudi culture, alongside organizing weekly cultural and enriching trips, with around 166 students representing more than 45 nationalities from around the world.
