Argentina’s national team coach Lionel Scaloni has agreed to extend his contract, nearly three months after losing the 2026 World Cup final and the retirement of captain Lionel Messi.
According to renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Scaloni has agreed to sign a new contract to coach the Argentine national team until the 2030 World Cup, after accepting the offer that was sent to him last September, while the final details are currently being finalized before the official signing.
Scaloni’s contract with the Argentine national team ends at the end of this year, and doubts have arisen in recent days about his continuation in the position, coinciding with Lionel Messi’s retirement.
Since taking charge in 2018, Scaloni has succeeded in bringing the Argentine national team back to the podium, leading them to win the 2022 World Cup, the Copa América twice in 2021 and 2024, and the Finalissima in 2022.
Scaloni led the Argentine national team to the final of the 2026 World Cup, but lost the title to Spain by a score of 1-0 in the match held at MetLife Stadium in the United States in July.
