The Spanish club Real Madrid issued a strongly worded official statement demanding the immediate resignation of Javier Tebas from his positions as president of the Spanish league “La Liga” and vice president of the Spanish Football Federation.
This sharp stance came in response to Tebas’s recent statements in which he compared the media strategy of the royal club and its television channel to the propaganda methods used by the Nazi regime’s Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels.
A “Nazi” comparison that provokes moral disgust
In its statement, Real Madrid expressed its firm rejection of Javier Tebas’s remarks, describing them as completely unacceptable and of exceptional seriousness. The club clarified that the act of a person holding leadership and sensitive positions in Spanish football resorting to comparisons with the Nazi regime to tarnish the reputation of the club and its management is a major disgrace. The statement emphasized that Tebas’s attempt to clarify that he did not mean the Nazi ideology itself does not diminish the depth of the insult, the moral disgust, and the lack of institutional decorum that his words carried.
Repeated attacks and targeting of the club’s media
The Merengues considered these statements not as an isolated incident, but as a new link in a series of repeated attacks launched by Tebas against Real Madrid, its president Florentino Pérez, and its media outlets. The club criticized the league president for exploiting questions and opinions from journalists not associated with the club to direct criticism against it, and for attempting to hold Real Madrid responsible for the actions and behaviors of third parties with which it has no connection.
The “Negreira” case and Real Madrid’s escalation towards UEFA
The statement pointed out that Tebas’s offensive remarks were an attempt to undermine the legitimate actions taken by Real Madrid and its television channel to demand justice in the Negreira case (related to payments made by FC Barcelona to the former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees). Real Madrid revealed that due to the inaction of local institutions led by Tebas, the club was forced to turn directly to the UEFA to demand a full and comprehensive investigation into the funds paid by Barcelona to the former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees, and to ensure the integrity of continental and domestic competitions.
Call for a comprehensive cleansing of the refereeing system
Real Madrid did not stop at demanding Tebas’s head; it also called for a comprehensive and radical renewal of the Spanish refereeing system, governance structures, management, oversight, and federal discipline. The club urged the removal and replacement of all individuals and officials who held leadership positions during the period when the Negreira case transgressions occurred, to ensure the restoration of transparency.
Stripping Tebas of eligibility and demanding his resignation
The capital club concluded its statement by affirming that Javier Tebas’s repeated behavior reveals a severe lack of neutrality, respect, and integrity, qualities that are completely at odds with his institutional responsibilities and make him a real obstacle to the development of Spanish football. Real Madrid stressed that such behaviors are unacceptable in any European sports system that respects principles, which strips Tebas of the institutional eligibility to continue in his position, affirming that the club will continue to defend its rights and historical reputation until a complete renewal of Spanish football is achieved.
