رغم خروج المنتخب السعودي بنقطة ثمينة من مواجهته الافتتاحية أمام أوروغواي في كأس العالم 2026، فإن الهدف الذي استقبله في الدقائق الأخيرة حرمه من إنهاء مباراة مونديالية بشباك نظيفة، وأعاد إلى الواجهة رقماً سلبياً يلازم «الأخضر» في تاريخ مشاركاته بالبطولة.
وانتهى لقاء المنتخب السعودي ونظيره الأوروغوياني في اللقاء الذي جمعهما على ملعب هارد روك بمدينة ميامي ضمن الجولة الأولى من دور المجموعات بالتعادل 1-1. وتقدم «الأخضر» عبر عبدالإله العمري في الدقيقة 41، قبل أن يدرك ماكسيميليانو أراوخو التعادل لأوروغواي في الدقيقة 80 مستفيداً من كرة ارتدت من الحارس محمد العويس.
وعلى الرغم من الأداء المميز الذي قدمه العويس وتصديه لعدة فرص خطرة خلال المباراة، فإن الهدف الأوروغوياني أبقى المنتخب السعودي بعيداً عن الحفاظ على نظافة شباكه للمباراة الـ19 من أصل 20 مباراة خاضها في نهائيات كأس العالم.
وتعود المباراة الوحيدة التي خرج فيها المنتخب السعودي بشباك نظيفة إلى مشاركته الأولى في مونديال 1994، عندما حقق فوزه التاريخي على بلجيكا بهدف سعيد العويران. ومنذ ذلك الانتصار، استقبلت شباك «الأخضر» أهدافاً في جميع مبارياته المونديالية اللاحقة.
في المقابل، منح التعادل المنتخب السعودي نقطة مهمة في مستهل مشواره بالبطولة، كما سجل ثالث تعادل له في تاريخ مشاركاته بكأس العالم، بعد تعادليه أمام جنوب أفريقيا 1998، وتونس 2006.
Despite the Saudi national team earning a valuable point from its opening match against Uruguay in the 2026 World Cup, the goal conceded in the final minutes prevented them from finishing a World Cup match with a clean sheet, bringing back a negative statistic that has haunted the “Green” throughout its history in the tournament.
The match between the Saudi team and its Uruguayan counterpart, held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami as part of the first round of the group stage, ended in a 1-1 draw. The “Green” took the lead through Abdulilah Al-Amri in the 41st minute, before Maximiliano Araújo equalized for Uruguay in the 80th minute, benefiting from a rebound off goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais.
Despite the impressive performance by Al-Owais and his saves from several dangerous chances during the match, the Uruguayan goal kept the Saudi team from maintaining a clean sheet for the 19th time out of 20 matches they have played in World Cup finals.
The only match in which the Saudi national team finished with a clean sheet dates back to its first participation in the 1994 World Cup, when it achieved its historic victory over Belgium with a goal from Saeed Al-Owairan. Since that victory, the “Green” has conceded goals in all of its subsequent World Cup matches.
On the other hand, the draw provided the Saudi team with an important point at the start of their campaign in the tournament, marking their third draw in the history of their World Cup participations, following draws against South Africa in 1998 and Tunisia in 2006.
