فيما تتقصى السلطات اللبنانية المواد التي استهدفت مواقع حرجية وزراعية بالمنطقة، لتحليلها ومعرفة طبيعتها، اتهمت قوة الأمم المتحدة المؤقتة في لبنان (اليونيفيل)، اليوم (الإثنين)، جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي برش مواد كيميائية في المنطقة الحدودية الجنوبية.
ووصفت اليونيفيل النشاط الإسرائيلي بـ«غير المقبول»، وأنه يشكّل مخالفةً للقرار الدولي 1701.
تحذير قوات حفظ السلام
وذكرت القوات الأممية أن جيش الاحتلال أبلغ «اليونيفيل» أمس أنه سينفذ نشاطاً جوياً لإسقاط ما قال إنه مادة كيميائية غير سامة فوق المناطق القريبة من الخط الأزرق، مبينة أنه طالب قوات حفظ السلام بالبقاء بعيداً، وأن تظل تحت أمكنة مسقوفة، ما أجبرها على إلغاء أكثر من 10 أنشطة.
وقال البيان: «لم يتمكن حفظة السلام من القيام بعمليات عادية على نحو ثلث طول الخط الأزرق، ولم يتمكنوا من استئناف أنشطتهم العادية إلا بعد مرور أكثر من 9 ساعات»، موضحاً أنهم ساعدوا القوات المسلحة اللبنانية في جمع العيّنات لفحصها للتأكد من درجة سميتها.
وذكرت قوات «اليونيفيل» أن هذه الإجراءات المتعمدة والمخططة التي قام بها جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي لم تحد من قدرة قوات حفظ السلام على القيام بالأنشطة الموكلة إليها فحسب، بل من المحتمل أيضاً أن تعرّض صحتهم وصحة المدنيين للخطر، مبينة أن الإجراءات المتعمدة التي قام بها الجيش الإسرائيلي أثارت مخاوف بشأن آثار هذه المادة الكيميائية غير المعروفة على الأراضي الزراعية المحلية، وكيف يمكن أن يؤثر ذلك على عودة المدنيين إلى منازلهم وأرزاقهم على المدى الطويل.
طلعات جوية فوق لبنان
وأفاد البيان بأن هذه ليست المرة الأولى التي يسقط فيها جيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي مواد كيميائية مجهولة من طائراته فوق لبنان، محذراً جيش الاحتلال من أن الطلعات الجوية التي تقوم بها طائراته فوق لبنان تشكل انتهاكاً للقرار 1701، وأن أي نشاط يعرّض قوات حفظ السلام والمدنيين للخطر يشكل مصدر قلق بالغ.
ودعت «اليونيفيل» الجيش الإسرائيلي إلى «وقف جميع هذه الأنشطة والعمل مع قوات حفظ السلام لدعم الاستقرار الذي نعمل جميعاً على تحقيقه».
بدورها، أعلنت وزارة البيئة اللبنانية أنها تلقت معلومات من بلدة عيتا الشعب والجوار عن مشاهدة طائرات إسرائيلية تقوم بعملية رش مواد يشتبه بأنها مبيدات، مبينة أن وزيرة البيئة الدكتورة تمارا الزين تواصلت مع قائد الجيش العماد رودولف هيكل، لطلب الحصول على عيّنات من المواقع التي رشت فيها، بهدف تحليلها ومعرفة طبيعتها والمتابعة.
وأشارت الوزارة إلى أن هذا السلوك، وفي حال ثبتت طبيعة هذه المواد أنها سامّة، فلن يكون مستغرباً عن إسرائيل التي لم تتوانَ عن إحراق نحو 9 آلاف هكتار في لبنان خلال العدوان الأخير عبر استخدام الفوسفور الأبيض والقنابل الحارقة، وذلك في إطار الإبادة البيئية التي ارتكبتها.
As the Lebanese authorities investigate the materials that targeted forest and agricultural sites in the area to analyze them and determine their nature, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) accused the Israeli occupation army today (Monday) of spraying chemical substances in the southern border area.
UNIFIL described the Israeli activity as “unacceptable,” stating that it constitutes a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Warning to Peacekeeping Forces
The UN forces reported that the occupation army informed “UNIFIL” yesterday that it would conduct aerial activities to drop what it claimed was a non-toxic chemical substance over areas near the Blue Line, indicating that it requested the peacekeeping forces to stay away and remain under covered places, which forced them to cancel more than 10 activities.
The statement said: “Peacekeepers were unable to carry out regular operations along about a third of the length of the Blue Line, and they could only resume their normal activities after more than 9 hours,” clarifying that they assisted the Lebanese Armed Forces in collecting samples for testing to determine their toxicity level.
UNIFIL indicated that these deliberate and planned actions taken by the Israeli occupation army not only hindered the peacekeeping forces’ ability to carry out their assigned activities but also potentially endangered their health and the health of civilians, noting that the deliberate actions taken by the Israeli army raised concerns about the effects of this unknown chemical substance on local agricultural lands and how it could affect the return of civilians to their homes and livelihoods in the long term.
Aerial Operations over Lebanon
The statement reported that this is not the first time the Israeli Defense Forces have dropped unknown chemical substances from their aircraft over Lebanon, warning the occupation army that the aerial operations conducted by its planes over Lebanon constitute a violation of Resolution 1701, and that any activity that endangers peacekeepers and civilians is a serious concern.
UNIFIL called on the Israeli army to “cease all these activities and work with the peacekeeping forces to support the stability we are all striving to achieve.”
For its part, the Lebanese Ministry of Environment announced that it had received information from the town of Aita al-Shaab and the surrounding area about sightings of Israeli aircraft conducting spraying operations of substances suspected to be pesticides, indicating that Environment Minister Dr. Tamara al-Zain contacted Army Commander General Rudolf Hekel to request samples from the sites where spraying occurred, with the aim of analyzing them and determining their nature for follow-up.
The ministry pointed out that this behavior, if it is proven that the nature of these substances is toxic, would not be surprising from Israel, which has not hesitated to burn about 9,000 hectares in Lebanon during the recent aggression by using white phosphorus and incendiary bombs, as part of the environmental destruction it has committed.
