The legend of English football and owner of Inter Miami, David Beckham, revealed the behind-the-scenes details of the historic signing of Lionel Messi, confirming that the deal took 4 years of continuous work.
Beckham said: “I secretly snuck into Messi’s father’s hotel, and we talked, and I suggested bringing Leo to Miami. He told me they would consider my offer,” revealing that three economic sectors were behind the deal that shifted the player’s path from Saudi Arabia to Miami.
He added: “When we noticed that Messi was unhappy at Paris Saint-Germain, we saw the opportunity and pushed to make it happen. He had offers from Saudi Arabia, but what worried me more was the possibility of him returning to Barcelona, and in the end, he didn’t.”
He continued: “We were told by his father that he would announce his future within two days, so we were on high alert. I was in Japan, it was five in the morning, my kids and wife were asleep, and suddenly notifications started pouring into my phone from my partners telling me that Messi was coming to Miami. It was amazing because it took a lot of work.”
Beckham concluded: “Messi is an incredible player and very smart; he sees things that others don’t see. He has completely changed the club.”
