The Public Health and Population Office in Taiz Governorate warned of the deprivation of approximately 347,000 children from vaccination against measles and rubella, and 72,500 children from routine vaccinations, due to the blockade imposed by the Houthi militia.
The government office expressed its deep concern in a statement today (Sunday) regarding the serious health and humanitarian repercussions resulting from the continuation of the war and the unjust blockade imposed by the militia on the city, confirming that this situation has led to a paralysis in vaccination programs and directly and severely threatens the lives of thousands of children.
It pointed out that the disruption of routine vaccine supplies has exposed about 72,500 children under the age of one to the risk of being deprived of essential vaccinations, making them vulnerable to severe health complications and deaths that could have been avoided.
The government office warned of the serious repercussions that represent a blow to health security, hinder its efforts to protect children’s lives, and threaten the collapse of the health gains that have been painstakingly achieved over the past years.
The Health Office condemned, in the strongest terms, the continuation of the blockade and its consequences, which deprive civilians, especially children, of essential health services and life-saving vaccines, demanding the immediate and urgent lifting of the blockade imposed on the city to ensure the safe and sustainable flow of medical supplies and vaccines to the governorate.
It affirmed that saving children begins with lifting the blockade, ensuring the arrival of vaccines, and resuming vaccination programs without delay, and that children’s right to life and healthcare will not be negated by the blockade or silence.
