احتفل الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب بسقوط أحد أبرز خصومه داخل الكونغرس، النائب الديمقراطي آل غرين، بعد خسارته الانتخابات التمهيدية في ولاية تكساس، موجهاً له هجوماً لاذعاً عبر حسابه على منصة «تروث سوشال».
وقال ترمب في منشوره: «تهانينا للحزب الديمقراطي! لقد خسر آل غرين، أحد أكثر أعضاء الكونغرس افتقاراً للكفاءة الذهنية في تاريخ بلادنا، مقعده بفارق ساحق»، مضيفاً بسخرية: «سأفتقد ذلك المجنون وهو يصرخ ويلوح بعصاه بعنف تجاهي خلال خطابي القادم عن حالة الاتحاد».
وختم الرئيس الأمريكي رسالته بشعاره الشهير: «لنجعل أمريكا عظيمة مجدداً.. بارك الله أمريكا».
هزيمة مدوية في تكساس
وخسر النائب الديمقراطي آل غرين مقعده في الانتخابات التمهيدية أمام منافسه الديمقراطي كريستيان مينيفي، في نتيجة اعتبرها مراقبون ضربة قوية لأحد أكثر الأصوات الديمقراطية هجوماً على ترمب داخل الكونغرس.
وحصل مينيفي في الجولة الأولى على 46% من الأصوات مقابل 44.2% لآل غرين، قبل أن يحسم جولة الإعادة لصالحه بدعم من تيارات وشخصيات تقدمية داخل الحزب.
محاولات عزل وصدامات متكررة
وعُرف آل غرين خلال السنوات الماضية بمواقفه الحادة ضد ترمب، إذ قاد عدة محاولات لعزله خلال الولاية الأولى للرئيس الجمهوري، وتحول إلى أحد أكثر النواب الديمقراطيين إثارة للجدل بسبب انتقاداته المتكررة ومقاطعته لخطابات ترمب الرسمية داخل الكونغرس.
وكانت قاعة مجلس النواب الأمريكي شهدت واقعة مثيرة بعدما تم طرد آل غرين خلال أول خطاب لترمب أمام الكونغرس عقب عودته إلى البيت الأبيض.
ومع بدء ترمب إلقاء خطابه، أطلق عدد من النواب الديمقراطيين صيحات استهجان، قبل أن يرفض آل غرين التوقف عن المقاطعة، ويقف رافعاً عصاه وهو يصرخ في وجه الرئيس، ما دفع رئيس مجلس النواب إلى إصدار أوامر بإخراجه من القاعة، ليتولى موظفو الكونغرس مرافقته إلى الخارج وسط توتر داخل المجلس.
اتهامات لأموال العملات الرقمية
وخلال حملته الانتخابية الأخيرة، اتهم آل غرين جهات مرتبطة بصناعة العملات الرقمية بتمويل حملات ضده بأكثر من 1.5 مليون دولار، معتبراً أن تلك الأموال لعبت دوراً رئيسياً في تقليص شعبيته داخل دائرته الانتخابية.
في المقابل، قدم كريستيان مينيفي نفسه باعتباره وجهاً ديمقراطياً جديداً قادراً على مواجهة الجمهوريين وترمب بأسلوب مختلف، استعداداً لخوض الانتخابات العامة المقبلة أمام الجمهوري رونالد ويتفيلد في نوفمبر القادم.
U.S. President Donald Trump celebrated the fall of one of his prominent opponents in Congress, Democratic Representative Al Green, after he lost the primary elections in Texas, directing a scathing attack at him via his account on the “Truth Social” platform.
Trump said in his post: “Congratulations to the Democratic Party! Al Green, one of the most mentally incompetent members of Congress in our nation’s history, has lost his seat by a landslide,” adding sarcastically: “I will miss that crazy guy screaming and waving his stick violently at me during my upcoming State of the Union address.”
The U.S. President concluded his message with his famous slogan: “Make America Great Again… God Bless America.”
Devastating Defeat in Texas
Democratic Representative Al Green lost his seat in the primary elections to his Democratic opponent Christian Menefee, in a result that observers considered a significant blow to one of the most vocal Democratic critics of Trump in Congress.
Menefee received 46% of the votes in the first round compared to 44.2% for Al Green, before securing victory in the runoff with support from progressive factions and figures within the party.
Impeachment Attempts and Repeated Clashes
Al Green has been known in recent years for his sharp stances against Trump, as he led several attempts to impeach the Republican president during his first term, becoming one of the most controversial Democratic representatives due to his repeated criticisms and interruptions of Trump’s official speeches in Congress.
The U.S. House of Representatives witnessed a dramatic incident when Al Green was expelled during Trump’s first speech before Congress after returning to the White House.
As Trump began his speech, several Democratic representatives shouted in protest, before Al Green refused to stop interrupting, standing up with his stick raised and shouting at the president, prompting the Speaker of the House to issue orders for his removal from the chamber, with congressional staff escorting him out amid tension in the chamber.
Accusations of Cryptocurrency Money
During his recent election campaign, Al Green accused entities linked to the cryptocurrency industry of funding campaigns against him with over $1.5 million, considering that this money played a key role in diminishing his popularity within his electoral district.
In contrast, Christian Menefee presented himself as a new Democratic face capable of confronting Republicans and Trump in a different manner, preparing to run in the upcoming general elections against Republican Ronald Whitfield next November.
