Who would have thought, or even expected, that the fans of Al-Ittihad would abandon their beloved team and its support? This fanbase, which has been a model of exemplary attendance, filling the stands to capacity, has become very sparse this season and the previous one in attending most matches, especially those held on their home ground, whether at the Al-Inma Stadium or Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium.
– I expected that the reason for this absence would serve as a polite protest, an objection to Al-Ittihad not receiving the support enjoyed by its three sibling clubs under a single owner, or an expression of dissatisfaction with the performance of the previous administration, particularly the club president.
– There were those who openly incited these fans to do so via the “X” platform, and unfortunately, a media figure associated with Al-Ittihad’s media!
– Despite knowing these fans over the years, generation after generation, I paid no attention to those statements and inciting calls, based on my confidence that Al-Ittihad’s fans understand their responsibilities towards their club, and that their absence would not be the solution; rather, it would fulfill the wishes and goals of those who take pleasure in their misfortunes and rivals, allowing their clubs to take the lead in terms of fan attendance. More importantly, the absence of these fans means the disappearance of their significant impact on the performance of the Tigers, and the loss of that fear created by their pressure on the opposing team’s players and coach.
– But, oh, how I lament that “but”! These fans have disappointed my expectations, and the expectations of many who believed that Al-Ittihad’s fans were the only ones deserving of the title “Number One,” and that they would never abandon their support for their club in the stands, regardless of the circumstances and hardships they face; for the entity is, to them, an indescribable eternal passion.
– I even heard one fan, in a conversation on a sports program, say that he loves Al-Ittihad more than his own children! While another said that any loss for Al-Ittihad deprives him of eating, drinking, and sleeping for several days!
– If the reasons for the protest have ended, and we assume that those justifications and excuses no longer exist, what is the excuse for these fans in their reluctance to attend the stands, after the hiring of the German coach Vising, who has pleased them and restored the club’s prestige, achieving multiple victories in a short period, and instilling confidence in the players, which had been stripped from them by the infamous former coach Kونسيساو? All of this should have been enough to bring these fans back to their former glory, cheering in a way that shakes the foundations of the stadium, with chants that resonate throughout the kingdom and beyond. However, what I witnessed in more than one match, the latest being against Al-Dhariyah, filled me with deep sadness, and my heart says, “May God have mercy on your time, oh Ittihad… even your fans have turned against you!” A final whisper:
– Before and during writing this whisper, I tried to avoid placing any blame on Al-Ittihad’s fans, but the bitter truth must be mentioned and accepted. Nevertheless, I found nothing that would lead me to stand by them and justify their absence, except for one reason, which I present in a playful tone mixed with regret: “The eye that did not mention God struck their club, envious of fans like no other,” and it seems that this eye was strong enough to leave its bad mark in this painful absence, and this strange and astonishing reluctance!
