Al-Layeb Park, located within the Al-Shawq Center in Al-Lith Governorate in the Makkah region, combines the diversity of nature with the depth of history; it features varied terrains and rock formations, as well as local wild plants, most notably the arak, samr, and silm, alongside the historic Aqirb Fort, which is one of the landmarks of the architectural heritage in the area.
The valley extends from the heights of the Sarawat Mountains to the east, cutting through the rock formations and heading west towards the coastal plains, reaching its mouth in the Red Sea, thus blending the beauty of nature with the depth of history, thanks to its diverse terrains. Over the years, floods have contributed to shaping the valley’s topography and natural features, while arak trees spread along its sides, forming extensive natural forests that give the place a distinctive environmental character, making it a destination for nature lovers, hiking, and exploration.
The Aqirb Fort stands out within the park as one of the historical landmarks overlooking the valley, characterized by its two-story stone construction and narrow openings that reflect the defensive nature of ancient architecture, highlighting human ability to utilize the site’s nature and topography in constructing buildings and providing protection.
The fort carries historical and cultural significance that calls for attention to documenting and studying its architectural features, contributing to raising awareness about the region’s history and preserving its heritage landmarks for future generations.
On the environmental side, Al-Layeb Park emerges as one of the promising natural sites for environmental and tourism investment. During the spring season, the park becomes an attractive destination for beekeepers, due to its diversity of wild and seasonal flowering plants that provide natural sources of nectar and pollen, contributing to supporting beekeeping activities and honey production.
