أكد المدير الفني للمنتخب السعودي جيورجوس دونيس أن المرحلة الحالية تتطلب العمل بهدوء وتركيز عالٍ استعدادًا للاستحقاقات الدولية المقبلة، وفي مقدمتها نهائيات كأس العالم، مشددًا على أهمية التطور التدريجي وبناء منظومة قوية داخل أرض الملعب لتحقيق الأهداف المستقبلية.
وقال دونيس خلال المؤتمر الصحفي إن اللاعبين الموجودين في القائمة يملكون الخبرة الكافية، مؤكدًا أهمية الحضور الذهني والشغف والانضباط، مضيفًا أن الجهاز الفني قادر على تطوير لاعبين مميزين قادرين على تطبيق النهج الفني والخطط المعتمدة.
وأوضح أن الجهاز الفني لا يفضل إطلاق وعود مبالغ فيها، بل يعتمد على العمل الواقعي القائم على الإعداد الفني والبدني والنفسي، مبينًا أن المنتخب سيتعامل مع البطولة خطوة بخطوة دون توقعات غير واقعية، مع بذل أقصى الجهود لتقديم مستوى مشرف.
وأشار دونيس إلى أن هدفه الأساسي يتمثل في بناء منتخب منظم داخل الملعب، يؤدي فيه كل لاعب أدواره بدقة وانضباط تكتيكي، مؤكدًا أن إيجاد هوية واضحة للمنتخب يمثل أولوية رئيسية خلال المرحلة المقبلة.
وامتدح المدير التنفيذي للمنتخب فهد المفرج، مؤكدًا معرفته السابقة به من خلال فترة عملهما المشتركة في الهلال، وقال: «أعرف فهد المفرج جيدًا، وعملنا معًا سابقًا وكانت تجربة ناجحة وإيجابية».
وبيّن دونيس أن معرفته السابقة بالدوري السعودي ستساعده على سرعة الانسجام مع اللاعبين وتسهيل تطبيق أفكاره الفنية، مؤكدًا أن الهدف النهائي يتمثل في ظهور المنتخب بصورة تنافسية مشرفة خلال المشاركات الدولية المقبلة.
وأشاد بما قدمه المنتخب السعودي في كأس العالم FIFA 2022، خصوصًا الفوز التاريخي على منتخب الأرجنتين، معتبرًا أن ذلك يؤكد قدرة الكرة السعودية على تحقيق نتائج كبيرة متى ما توفرت الجاهزية الفنية والانضباط التكتيكي.

وكشف دونيس أن عمله مع المنتخب بدأ قبل نحو 35 يومًا، أمضى خلالها وقتًا مكثفًا في متابعة الأندية واللاعبين والحالات الطبية، إلى جانب عقد اجتماعات مباشرة مع اللاعبين، مؤكدًا امتلاكه صورة متكاملة عن جاهزية العناصر، مشيرًا إلى أن أغلب اللاعبين في وضع جيد، باستثناء نواف العقيدي الذي تعرض لإصابة سابقة.

The executive director of the national team, Fahd Al-Mufrej, praised him, confirming his prior knowledge of him through their shared work period at Al-Hilal, saying: “I know Fahd Al-Mufrej well, and we worked together before, and it was a successful and positive experience.”
Donis indicated that his previous knowledge of the Saudi league will help him quickly integrate with the players and facilitate the implementation of his technical ideas, affirming that the ultimate goal is for the team to appear in a competitive and honorable manner during upcoming international participations.
He praised what the Saudi national team achieved in the FIFA World Cup 2022, especially the historic victory over the Argentina national team, considering that this confirms the ability of Saudi football to achieve significant results whenever technical readiness and tactical discipline are present.
He emphasized that the psychological aspect is an important element during the upcoming phase, pointing to the importance of enhancing players’ self-confidence and their ability to compete against the strongest national teams in the world.
Donis explained that he has a good understanding of the characteristics of Saudi players from his previous experience in the Roshan Saudi League, confirming that this experience will help him evaluate the players and choose the most suitable style for their abilities.

Donis revealed that his work with the national team began about 35 days ago, during which he spent intensive time monitoring clubs, players, and medical cases, in addition to holding direct meetings with the players, confirming that he has a comprehensive picture of the readiness of the players, noting that most players are in good condition, except for Nawaf Al-Aqeedi, who suffered a previous injury.
Donis concluded his remarks by emphasizing the importance of giving players confidence and security, stressing that mistakes are part of football, and that the most important thing is to convey the correct technical messages and to continuously work on development and ideal preparation to present the team in the best possible light.
