لم تكن ساعات العمل العادية في مكتب البريد بمدينة «دي موين» عاصمة ولاية أيوا الأمريكية تنذر بأي كارثة، قبل أن تحول موظفة مكان العمل إلى مسرح لجريمة مرعبة، حيث أطلقت وابلاً من الرصاص بشكل مفاجئ على زملائها، في هجوم خلف إصابات بالغة وأثار حالة من الذعر الشديد.
بدأت كواليس الجريمة نحو الساعة التاسعة والربع صباحاً، حين دوت أصوات ما بين 10 إلى 12 طلقة نارية في الطابق الثاني من المبنى، وتحديداً داخل المنطقة الداخلية المخصصة للموظفين والبعيدة عن أعين الجمهور. المتهمة جينيفر كريستين بليدجر (39 عاماً)، استهدفت زميلتين لها بالرصاص، ولم تتوقف عند هذا الحد، بل واصلت إطلاق النار بوحشية أثناء فرارها من المبنى، بل وقفت فوق إحدى الضحيتين لتطلق عليها النار مجدداً، بينما أُصيب موظف ثالث بكسور وجروح بليغة إثر سقوطه أرضاً أثناء محاولته الهرب بحياته من جحيم الرصاص.
وأنقذت الاستجابة الأمنية السريعة الموقف من كارثة أكبر، إذ تلقت الشرطة البلاغات وتحركت العناصر للوصول إلى الموقع خلال ثلاث دقائق فقط. وبعد عملية ملاحقة سريعة، أُلقي القبض على المشتبه بها في تمام الساعة 9:21 صباحاً على مسار قريب للدراجات دون أن تبدي أي مقاومة، وبحوزتها مسدس عيار 9 ملم استخدمته في الجريمة.
من جهته، أوضح المتحدث باسم الشرطة بول باريزيك أن الهجوم أسفر عن إصابة امرأتين (45 و53 عاماً) ورجل (55 عاماً)، جرى نقلهم إلى المستشفى لتلقي العلاج وحالاتهم مستقرة حالياً. وفي الوقت الذي بدأت فيه فرق التحقيق المشتركة (تضم شرطة الولاية ومكتب التحقيقات الفيدرالي وخدمة التفتيش البريدية) فك لغز الجريمة والبحث عن الدوافع وراءها، تواجه الموظفة الآن سلسلة تهم ثقيلة تشمل الشروع في القتل والإيذاء المتعمد المفضي لإصابات خطيرة والترهيب، وسط متابعة شخصية من حاكمة الولاية كيم رينولدز لتطورات الحادثة المروعة.
The regular working hours at the post office in Des Moines, the capital of Iowa, did not foreshadow any disaster before an employee turned the workplace into a scene of a terrifying crime, suddenly unleashing a hail of bullets on her colleagues, in an attack that left severe injuries and caused a state of extreme panic.
The crime began around 9:15 AM when the sounds of 10 to 12 gunshots rang out on the second floor of the building, specifically inside the internal area designated for employees and away from the public’s view. The accused, Jennifer Christine Blidger (39 years old), targeted two of her colleagues with gunfire and did not stop there; she continued to shoot brutally while fleeing the building, even standing over one of the victims to shoot her again, while a third employee sustained fractures and severe injuries after falling to the ground while trying to escape the hail of bullets.
The swift security response saved the situation from a larger disaster, as the police received reports and the units moved to the scene within just three minutes. After a quick pursuit, the suspect was arrested at 9:21 AM on a nearby bike path without showing any resistance, and she was in possession of a 9mm pistol that she used in the crime.
For his part, police spokesperson Paul Parizek explained that the attack resulted in injuries to two women (aged 45 and 53) and a man (aged 55), who were transported to the hospital for treatment and are currently in stable condition. While the joint investigation teams (comprising state police, the FBI, and the postal inspection service) began to unravel the mystery of the crime and search for motives behind it, the employee now faces a series of serious charges including attempted murder, intentional bodily harm leading to serious injuries, and intimidation, with personal oversight from Governor Kim Reynolds on the developments of this horrific incident.
