Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr reassured the team’s fans about the condition of star player Stephen Curry, confirming that he is “fine,” after he left the team’s open practice limping during preparations for the upcoming season of the NBA.
Curry encountered the situation after his right foot slipped while he was turning on the court, as he suddenly stopped before hitting the ball to the ground and cautiously moved towards the sideline, then left for the locker room.
Kerr explained in statements to reporters after practice that Curry informed him of an ankle injury, which eased concerns about the possibility of recurring issues with his right knee that kept him out of 27 games late last season.
Curry, a four-time league champion and two-time MVP, only participated in 43 games last season before returning from a knee injury to play in the final matches.
Last September, the Warriors extended the contract of their 38-year-old star for at least two more years, in a deal reportedly worth $116 million, according to AFP. The club also renewed Draymond Green’s contract for one season at $28 million, while extending Coach Kerr’s contract for two years.
Kerr had acknowledged earlier this week that the club would adopt a careful policy in managing the participation of its veteran players, including Curry, during the upcoming season, suggesting that they may not play all 82 regular-season games.
Kerr said: “I would advise fans buying tickets to check the game schedule, as it won’t just be about Steph, but will include several of our veteran players whose participation we will try to manage, because that is the only way to ensure their longevity.”
The Golden State Warriors will kick off their new season with a matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.
