The Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has requested the arrest of officials from “Hezbollah” in connection with the explosives truck case. The Lebanese newspaper “Al-Akhbar” reported today (Saturday) that the President asked the military intelligence to expand the investigations into the explosives truck case.
It added that the public prosecutor, Rami Al-Haj, subsequently issued judicial orders to the security agencies to arrest the head of the liaison and coordination committee in Hezbollah, Hussein Al-Abdallah, and his assistant, Ali Ayoub, due to their knowledge of the explosives truck and their responsibility in the matter, with the aim of identifying all other responsible parties.
The newspaper confirmed that the state is proceeding on a path of internal confrontation and provocation. As for Hezbollah, which announced through MP Hassan Fadlallah its refusal to abandon the explosives, it has shifted the dispute from the level of security and judicial handling to direct confrontation with the authority.
It revealed that Hezbollah is no longer dealing with internal pressures in the same manner that governed its positions previously, and that the accumulation of confrontations, along with the ongoing Israeli assaults and the absence of a clear prospect for settlement, may push it to reconsider its calculations regarding the limits of internal engagement.
The newspaper pointed out in its issue published today that Aoun sought to push the American side to pressure Israel, but the course of American demands does not yet suggest that this direction is a priority for Washington.
Last Monday, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam emphasized that there would be no leniency or tolerance regarding the investigation into the case of seizing more than half a ton of explosive materials of the types “TNT” and “C4”.
The government commissioner to the military court, Lebanese Judge Claude Ghannam, listened to two detainees in the explosives case, where the seized materials were placed under the custody of the Lebanese military police.
