أعلنت مديرة الاستخبارات الوطنية الأمريكية تولسي غابارد، في آخر يوم لها بالمنصب، رفع السرية عن مجموعة من المراسلات والوثائق التي لم تُنشر سابقاً، متهمةً الدكتور أنتوني فاوتشي بالضلوع في جهود هدفت إلى إخفاء معلومات تتعلق بمنشأ فيروس كورونا والتأثير على التقييمات الاستخباراتية الخاصة بالجائحة.
وقالت غابارد إن الوثائق تتضمن معطيات تشير إلى أن فاوتشي، خلال رئاسته للمعهد الوطني للحساسية والأمراض المعدية، وافق على تمويل أبحاث مرتبطة بفيروسات كورونا في معهد ووهان لعلم الفيروسات بالصين، باستخدام أموال حكومية أميركية. واعتبرت أن هذه الأبحاث تُعد من بين الفرضيات المطروحة لتفسير التسرب المختبري المحتمل الذي سبق تفشي جائحة كوفيد-19.
ووفقاً لبيان صادر عن مكتب مدير الاستخبارات الوطنية، فإن الوثائق تشير إلى وجود تواصل بين فاوتشي ومسؤولين داخل أجهزة الاستخبارات بشأن تقييمات منشأ الفيروس، كما تتضمن مزاعم تفيد بوجود ضغوط مورست على بعض المحللين الذين أبدوا اعتراضات على الاستنتاجات الرسمية المتعلقة بالمصدر الطبيعي للفيروس.
وأضافت غابارد أن المراجعة، التي استمرت عاماً كاملاً قبل رفع السرية عن الوثائق، استندت إلى شهادات عدد من المبلغين من داخل مجتمع الاستخبارات، أفادوا بأن بعض الآراء المخالفة للتوجهات السائدة آنذاك تعرضت للتهميش، وأن أصحابها واجهوا تداعيات مهنية بسبب مواقفهم.
كما اتهمت فاوتشي بالإدلاء بمعلومات غير دقيقة أمام الكونغرس خلال شهادته تحت القسم عام 2024، بعدما نفى معرفته أو مشاركته في مناقشات مع مسؤولين استخباراتيين حول الأبحاث الفيروسية.
وقالت غابارد إن الشعب الأمريكي يستحق الاطلاع على الحقائق الكاملة المتعلقة بمنشأ الجائحة والقرارات التي اتُخذت خلال تلك الفترة، معتبرة أن الوثائق المنشورة تسلط الضوء على ما وصفته بمحاولات للتأثير على المعلومات المتاحة للرأي العام وصناع القرار.
وأشار البيان كذلك إلى أن مراجعة مئات الرسائل الإلكترونية أظهرت وجود تواصل مستمر بين خبراء ممولين من المعهد الوطني للحساسية والأمراض المعدية وجهات استخباراتية كانت تقيّم فرضيات منشأ الفيروس، الأمر الذي اعتبرته غابارد دليلاً على حجم التأثير الذي مارسه فاوتشي خلال إدارة الأزمة الصحية العالمية.
واختتمت مديرة الاستخبارات الوطنية السابقة بيانها بالتأكيد على أن نشر هذه الوثائق يهدف إلى تعزيز الشفافية وإتاحة المعلومات للرأي العام بعد سنوات من الجدل المستمر بشأن منشأ فيروس كورونا والقرارات التي صاحبت التعامل مع الجائحة.
The Director of the U.S. National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, announced on her last day in office the declassification of a set of previously unpublished communications and documents, accusing Dr. Anthony Fauci of being involved in efforts aimed at concealing information related to the origins of the coronavirus and influencing intelligence assessments regarding the pandemic.
Gabbard stated that the documents include data indicating that Fauci, during his tenure as the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, approved funding for research related to coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China, using U.S. government funds. She considered this research to be among the hypotheses proposed to explain the potential laboratory leak that preceded the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the documents indicate that there was communication between Fauci and officials within intelligence agencies regarding assessments of the virus’s origins, and they include allegations that some analysts who expressed objections to the official conclusions regarding the natural source of the virus faced pressure.
Gabbard added that the review, which lasted a full year before the documents were declassified, was based on testimonies from several whistleblowers within the intelligence community, who reported that some dissenting views were marginalized and that their proponents faced professional repercussions due to their positions.
She also accused Fauci of providing inaccurate information to Congress during his sworn testimony in 2024, after he denied any knowledge or participation in discussions with intelligence officials regarding viral research.
Gabbard stated that the American people deserve to know the full facts related to the origins of the pandemic and the decisions made during that time, considering that the published documents shed light on what she described as attempts to influence the information available to the public and decision-makers.
The statement also noted that a review of hundreds of emails revealed ongoing communication between experts funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and intelligence entities that were assessing hypotheses about the virus’s origins, which Gabbard regarded as evidence of the extent of the influence Fauci exerted during the management of the global health crisis.
The former Director of National Intelligence concluded her statement by emphasizing that the publication of these documents aims to enhance transparency and provide information to the public after years of ongoing debate regarding the origins of the coronavirus and the decisions that accompanied the response to the pandemic.
